Watched that game last night and kept finding myself going.. What the ****! esp after that save on Boyes
Yeah, I've watched that save 5 times. Still marvel at it.

He made an extremely similar save on Bergeron during a game, somewhere around '08 or '09, can't find it on youtube though

Or against Langenbrunner in his rookie season (shootout). It's in the MSG Profile production of Lundqvist.

I believe that was his sophomore season.

Came here to post his mediocre puck handling but I was beaten to it.

Don't care that much about his puck handling. He saves he makes-sometimes you just stare at the screen in awe.

This. It's imo one of the least important abilities for a goalie.

Funny how when the team goes from playoff wannabes to elite, Lundqvist has gotten so much better.

There might be a connection between the two...

The team is better. Allows his numbers to improve. He's of course better than he was his first 2 years in the league but not by much only because from day 1 he's been vezina caliber.

The all-time highest save percentage in any season for a Ranger goalie is .924, and Lundqvist is blowing that out with an obscene .939.

While it was a good save, Lundqvist got lucky because he was clearly beaten by Boyes. You can even see that after he made the save he was visibly angry with himself for having made the first move...at his best he shouldn't have been on his knees to begin with and therefore shouldn't have had to be in the position to make a desperate save like that. The fact that he still made it is a testament to his abilities, athleticism, and a clear indication that he's not just one of those butterfly goalies that blocks as much net as possible but an actual puck-stopper like goalies of other eras (obviously we all know this).

Hank's save on Boyes was given the 2nd best save of the week by the NHL.

If Thomas made that save it would have been #1, I'm liking the fact that Melrose keeps referring to Hank as the best goalie in the league...

True. Thomas does that, and the NBCSN's commentators will probably be talking about it for the next 2 years
