Flaw: Harts hits a lot more than Smyth and probably has just as much offensive upside at this point.

We don't really need Smyth anymore.

He came out guns-a-blazing this year and got pooped out before December. He's done. He's just trying to hang in there to get a long flashy contract extension.

The thing about Gagner, I felt he always gave 100% but the hockey sense wasn't always there.

He doesn't have elite speed or shot but has the desire and tonight was a great deal of luck, but every single point was Sam being in the right place at the right time.

Also, Smyth does not have the stamina to play top 6 in my opinion. He makes some very good plays like on one of the goals, he boxed out the defender so Gagner could do the wrap-around.

??? - RNH - Eberle
Hall - Gagner - Hemsky

Also, what are people's thoughts on Cornet's game tonight??
Hemsky and Gagner are a no-go, I always felt that it could be one or the other but not both with RNH and Eberle cemented in our top 6. Hemsky needs to go, period. Get what we can for him and try to add some size for our top 6. Either at the draft or maybe from within if Paajarvi can get his game in order by next year. Also Whitney makes this a much better team, hopefully he's healthy and stays healthy and we can sign him to a 3-4 year deal sometime next season.

You don't get 8 points with out luck. I will say though, he has had bad luck all year. I think this evened it out. I will say he is a 60-70 point C. Great 2nd line C. Great heart, great character. I have made the comparison in the past, but reminds me of Marc Savard. No one ever thought he would be good, but found a way to keep putting up points.

First time we win after being tied after 2 periods..

Cam Barker is apparently the key

Hall/Eberle with 4 points each

God I love playing Chicago

That's why I always said we keep Gagner over Hemsky 10/10 times.
Yeah, Hemsky has worn out his welcome here.

Better yet. Draft Grigorenko, trade Hemsky for a 1st and a D prospect and draft D with that pick and our 2nd.

RNH-Grigorenko-Gagner as our top 3 centers, or move Gagner to the wing.

McKenzie makes some interesting points regarding Gagner; says if you play RNH-Eberle-Hall together, Sam lost in shuffle.

Needs to be the 2nd C but needs to (duh!) play with talented wingers.

That certainly brought back memories. Never thought I would see another Oiler get 8 points in a game!

Pond hockey, just like the early 80's Oilers, but what a game tonight. So wired, after coming home from Rexall!

Sleep, not going to happen!

I think a 4hr run game is about as rare. Perfect games are a little less rare but not much. Scoring 60+ points in basket ball.

Who are these Gagner haters that everyone is referring to?

Is it wrong to be objective at times and call a player out when he is playing well below his abilities. I think tonight proves a lot of those "haters" right. He was playing poorly and way to inconsistently for good chunks of his career, He is not the the underdeveloped 22 year old boy that all his diehard blind support fans say he is. He has the ability to be a very good #2 center, hopefully he realizes this after tonight as he is a very good hockey player when he is engaged and playing with confidence.

It would have been sweet for him to get nine points, we would have to spell his name 9agner for the rest of the year.

I don't know if he'll be a 70 point guy (hardly anyone is in the new NHL) but he is someone this team can't just give away. He can play all 3 forward positions on any of the three lines. He can play with a lot of different players as well. Very versatile guy that I feel would bite us in the butt if we traded him away.

*empty*-RNH-Eberle
Hall-*empty*-Gagner

Pray that MPS can get his game together and maybe be able to be a 3rd wheel on that first line.

She can't ***** about how fans love Slats and can't endure a rebuild on nights like tonight. Kind of nice not to have to wade through the repetitive posts.

I was at the gym so I missed the second half of the game but I just kept staring at my TSN iPhone app and giggling like a school girl every time Gagner's name popped up again ... and again ... and again ...

Awesome.

He deserves it, but hopefully this can give him the confidence to produce at a more regular level.

I think RNH should play with Hemsky and Smyth when he comes back, can't move Sam off that line right now.

An 8 point night in basketball terms is like a 60+ point game. Probably even 70.

Absolutely crazy night congrats Sam. On another note how does a 8 point player play less then a -2 player (horcoff) by 5 minutes

Is it any more obvious this team needs better veteran leaders?

Still surreal to think Gagner had an 8 point game.
