Report: Hamilton moving to Laval

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/AHL...-19295161.html

Quote:
MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens' American Hockey League affiliate is set to move to the Montreal suburb of Laval, according to information obtained by TVA Sports from a source close to the story.

According to the source, the Hamilton Bulldogs could move to their new home by as early as summer 2013.

Just like the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Habs' farm team would end up playing a few kilometres from the home of the parent club, in this case the Bell Centre.

Makes sense. They aren't drawing flies in Hamilton.

So when is Binghamton going to be moved to somewhere in Ontario or near Ottawa?

I assume a new arena will be built to accommodate them since the Colisee de Laval is almost 60 years old...

Well apparently it's just a baseless rumour...

Andlauer insists Bulldogs not moving

Quote:
Michael Andlauer says Wednesday’s story by the French-language TV network TVA claiming his team will leave Copps Coliseum and move to a yet-to-be-built arena just a few kilometres from downtown Montreal is simply the latest version of a rumour that’s been floating around for several years now.

“As long as I’m the Bulldogs’ owner, we’re not going anywhere,” he said Wednesday.
And yeah, there doesn't appear to be an arena ready to host anyways...

Quote:
Beyond Andlauer’s denial, the one significant problem with the Laval idea remains the lack of a building. While there’s been endless talk of creating a suitable arena with help from various levels of government, no construction company has even been hired yet and no work has begun.

The result is nobody really has any idea when an appropriate facility could be ready.

“You tell me a place in Laval that’s ready to host in 2013,” Andlauer said
Good thing we found out before I went foaming at the mouth in self-righteous indignation....oh....

Well he has to regardless. He also has a business to run in the area, I think the last thing he wants to do is alienate customers. According to Councillor Sam Merulla, Andlauer already has a new agreement in place to continue playing there.

While I wouldn't put it past Andlauer to play games (he is an NHL owner after all), I don't think this is the case. I think somebody just read the wrong set of tea leaves....

I know a guy who would help finance an arena in Laval. His name is......Mostafa Afr. Afterall, that is sort of his trademark.....

Just because he's denying it dowesn't mean it's not true though. Not saying it is true either.

The Binghamton franchise is locally owned so they wouldn't just "move".

I think history has proven enough times that often when a team spokesperson flat out denies a rumor that the rumor often comes true, usually sooner than later.

Will this open the door to the "Hamilton Coyotes"?

I don't think so with the group that wants to build a new arena in Markham that really does not favor Hamilton.

Andlauer is pretty much guarenteeing that the Bulldogs will be there beyond 2013 (which probably means a new lease agreement is probably already completed.) He however is saying that it might not be affliated with the Montreal Canadians, so the Bulldogs might have a new colour scheme in a year and a half...

I'm not saying it is or isn't the case here, but there are plenty of examples of saying one thing and then doing the exact opposite.

Where did you find it he is guarenteeing the team will stay?

Thought they were only partially locally owned.

That happened in the WHL - whatever an owner says doesn't mean squat. Fans started figuring things out when they realized they hadn't gotten their season ticket renewal forms. Ownership said they were at the print shop...they never came....

It was reported on CHCH. The team will remain even if the affliation changes. It was a pretty deffinate statement from Andlauer. I have no reason right now to think he's lying, I have plenty of reasons to think the Laval story is bogus even if the Canadiens are thinking of moving the affliation...

Is the proposed arena in Laval going to be near the Metro stop in Laval? Did they ever build them? That could be a lot of fun if it's close.

Which will open first, Laval or Allentown?

True. But a team could still leave town even if those are sent out.

Question that needs to be answered here.

Can Michael Andlauer be a part owner of the Montreal Canadians and own an AHL club affliated with another NHL team?

KEEP IN MIND ONE THING THOUGH, Andlauer is in essence leasing the Bulldogs franchise from MTL, ED, remember when the Oilers pulled out, everything went with them, including the franchise..... If the Canadiens pull the franchise out of Hamilton, essentially what we know now as the Bulldogs the last decade, doesn't exist, bc Andlauer doesn't own a franchise nor is there one available as there was when the Canadiens arrive there.....

You once again, after years of having the difference explained to you, are confusing the FRANCHISE with the AFFILIATION. In the Oilers situation, the Oilers owned not only the AFFILIATION (the rights to the players) but also the FRANCHISE (the business entity that is "the team"). In this case, Andlauer (and his partners) own the FRANCHISE - they purchased (not leased) the Citadelles franchise. A franchise being leased is VERY rare.

If you have any supporting evidence and links to your claim that the Canadiens OWN the franchise, I would be very interested in you posting it. Otherwise, you've just once again confused people who are interested in the actual situation on the ground.
