I would LOVE to bring Carter here. We could offer a package around Loktionov, Bernier and Martinez. Would have to throw in Penner as a salary dump but he's UFA so it could work.

why would the kings need Carter to be their 3rd best center? 15 mil long term tied up in 3 centers? fairly risky IMO

But he isn't the number 1 center we NEED. Look I like Carter.. alot. But 1. him and Lupul before had off ice issues together alot. Do you want that on the team? and 2. We need a playmaking first line center. Lupul - Carter - Kessel as the top line wouldn't be as dangerous as it sounds. Who passes the puck? Kessel is a good passer but still a shoot first mentality. I'm not specifically saying this name (since I doubt they move him) but we need a center like a Getzlaf. Lupul - Getzlaf - Kessel would be a LETHAL top line. They all have very different styles that would work together. Kessel likes to carry the puck and make plays that way, Getzlaf is a pass first and a great one at that and Lupul has a very good one timer. Again, I doubt he is moved but I'm just saying a center LIKE him.
How in the world is Carter a "legit #1C" like many of you are saying? You can quote me again even if Burke does get him but here it goes:
CARTER is not a #1C, he's a very good #2C, who happened to have one good year. He's got a good shot, is good defensively and has potential to put up about 65-70 points.
That pretty much guarantees you 5-5.5M, what I don't like is the superstar longterm deal he has. 11 years is too much for a guy like Carter.
If the Leafs were to acquire Carter, I don't see him being traded for anything less than a premium because that's what Howson gave up for him anyways.
He's a good player that I'd love to have on the Leafs to have more scoring threats but Kessel and Carter is not going to work.
i can understand why Leaf fans wouldn't want Carter because of his contract, or maybe because if his "off-ice issues" (though Phaneuf, Kessel and Grabovski were all said to have similar "problems") ... but to not want him because he's not a setup man is kinda silly i think.
how can people still think Kessel/Lupul need a setup man? have you not watched your own team this season?
Kessel has become a premier passer, and Lupul is no slouch passing the puck either.
having said that, there will hopefully be better options for the Leafs by the deadline...but if Carter could be had for reasonably cheap, i'd be happy to add him.
