T. Ruutu looking for 5+ mill on his next contract

Bill Waters says Ruutu is looking for 5+. Do you think hes worth that? With a career high of 57 pts and only scored 20 goals once in his career, i dont think hes even worth 4. His biggest asset is his ability to play physical and grind it out. More like 3.5 tops. Hes on the same level as Glencross, in fact many might even choose Glencross over him.

He can get Cole money, but not 5+. 4-4.5 IMO.

Ruutu has scored 20 goals twice in his career and will hit 20 this year if he doesn't get hurt.

He should get Cole/Ladd money.

I don't see him getting $5M + on his next contract but I think somewhere around $3.5M-$4.5M is reasonable and to be expected.

Good luck with that.

The only way a GM would give that cash money would be in order to reach the cap floor, but 5 million+? meh

Child please.

If he goes unrestricted he will get it from someone. Very few quality will be available in July. He is younger than Cole.

What did Leino get in the offseason? over 4 million per?

Though this FA isn't so weak.. Ruutu will get a raise.

I dunno if I would pay the guy over $4 million. 5+ is tough to swallow. Who knows in free agency though...

Even 4.5 is overpayment. This guy is roughly .60PPG player throughout his career. He wouldnt even crack some of the contenders top 2 lines.

Ruutu is worth about 3.5M ,, He is too inconsitant to be reliable top 6 player he is best suited as a 3rd line LW

I'd like to say that GM's have learned from last off-season, but I'd be wrong. I'm sure somebody would be willing to give Ruutu at least $5m.

Likely around 4.5-4.7, but it could rise a bit from that. 5+ is just negotiation tactic.

I'm sure plenty of players want 5 mill. That is just him and his agent making him seem better than he is. No way will he be worth 5 mill. Erik Cole is worth his money. Small chance Ruutu is IMO. Sucker GM will do it though, they always do. Columbus?

Isn't this irrelevant anyway? He wants that, but he'll settle for less.

Any GM dumb enough to pay that should get fired. Better pass on a player than overpay him. Think long term gentlemen.

Okay now that is just ridiculous. Guy has a 37% face-off % and is about a 50-60 pt player, tops, and he wants Kesler cash.

Crazy.

If this is true his trade value should drop significantly.

Cole and Ladd are much more complete hockey players. They are leaders and respected by teammates and opponents both on and off the ice. Nobody will ever accurately make that claim about Tuomo. While some will say that (intangibles) shouldn't lead to more or less dollars the fact the are hard workers in their own zones is. The next time Ruutu takes a hit in his own end to make a play will be the 1st time.
