How much cap space do the Rangers have left? Sather can somehow get it done if he's interested in him

Hopefully Ruutu doesn't get greedy and signs with Boston/Detroit.

If he doesn't go for a big payday he'll likely re-sign in Carolina to stay with his buddies Jokinen and Pitkanen.

Just because Carlonia paid him 3.8 million doesn't mean he is worth that or needs to make more than that on his next contract.
Among contending teams I see Ruutu upgrading the top six in Chicago, Detroit, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Nashville, St.Louis, Pittsburgh and Washington.

I could see San Jose, Boston, Philly and the Rangers not having a pressing need for Ruutu given their top six talent.

The contenders are the teams with 1st-round picks in the 20's, thus more likely to contemplate parting with a 1st-rounder for a Cup push.

Does he play both wings, or is he a player that needs to be on the left wing. If he's better as a left winger, that limits the teams that would go for him. In that case, he'd likely bump down to 3rd line on a few of those teams.

Ruutu would get to Detroit's top 6 easily, depending on what happens with Bertuzzi next summer, he might even get a shot at first line duty. His playing style matches exactly what Detroit needs once Bert and Homer are gone.
