So you'd be okay with a goalie and a cap dump for Carter?

I would think you'd want much more, especially considering Jarett Stoll is comparable to Pahlsson.

I could see taking a higher cap dump with more talent, but really Stoll?

Horrible.

A deal like this would probably depend on LA making another move, possible Penner going out and (maybe as rumoured) Kulemin, MacArthur or another 2nd line winger coming to LA.

Lombardi will want to get busy this deadline, definitely. Not sure about the wisdom of entering the playoffs with Sandford though. Maybe they would make a pitch to Tampa for Roloson if he's available?
YOu do realize Sanford is the main reason the Jackets have any wins this year, and Roloson is the main reason TBay is likely picking in the lottery?

He's not being sought after to be a number 1 center. He's wanted bc he can put the puck in the net.

What an awful deal for Columbus. Surely if this is all it takes another g.m would want Carter for more.

Eh, I'd take Backes, Elias, Koivu, and Duchene over Carter.

If this trade were to happen early enough, Columbus could flip Stoll to another team before the deadline. They might get as high as a late 2nd-rounder for him (Chris Kelly and Brad Boyes both fetched 2nd-rounders last February). He may not be putting up points, but faceoff specialists who are responsible defensively are sought after by teams heading to the playoffs. So, there's that to consider. It wouldn't necessarily make the rumored deal even, but it'd help.

I'm getting increasingly concerned that Bernier's career is going to pan out like Garon's. Garon had top potential, too, but playing on mediocre teams like LA, Edmonton and Columbus pretty much ensured that he wouldn't reach it. That's not to say that players don't have responsibility for their own play, but they often need to be sheltered while they establish themselves and get a bit lucky in their opportunities to really reach their potential.

I like Elias and Duchene as wingers personally. Koivu is so limited on offense that he just doest have the makings of a real top line center. Backes is a great player though, but i prefer carter centering my number 1 line.

I don't see how you can say Mikko Koivu is limited offensively...especially when he and Carter have had similar numbers, while Koivu also has a distinct advantage defensively and in the physicality & leadership categories.

If I was Columbus and could trade Carter for a goalie like Bernier, I would do it. I also think they could get a much better player than Stoll in return but it may need to be him for salary.

Columbus trades Carter, locks up 1st pick, drafts Grigorenko, doesn't rush him up, gets next tw years 1st round picks, brings up new draft picks, contends for playoffs. Then Rick Nash can sign a reasonable deal with the Wings.

You may like them as wingers better, but they are damn good centers and I'd take them over Carter. Koivu is a 70+ point player with all sorts of intangibles to boot, and with Backes you don't even have an argument.

Jesus Christ if that is the return he gets for Carter, Howson is a bigger ****ing idiot than I first though. Yeah, trade away a #1 center for a borderline #2 center and a goalie that hasn't done jack crap in the NHL. That isn't even getting back half of what he gave up for him..jesus.

Koivu collects assits, carter gets goals. i am personally of the belief that sometimes assists totals can be overrated, especially secondary assits. Goals however are a stat id prefer to judge a player by. Carter scores alot more goals than Koivu, his contract is significantly less and id say no distinct advantage defensively. leadership cant be measured.

Definitely sounds like the two teams are talking about a deal, but Howson could be just trying to make a market for Carter too.

yeah but i think they are more effective as wingers. Carter is having a bad year. next year when he is healthy and is scoring 30 goals again people will change their tune.

Come on, LA...you know you want Mason instead of Sanford.

Please?
