#52 | SABRES at ISLANDERS | SAT FEB 04 | 07:00PM ET

GDT#52: SABRES (21-24-6) at ISLANDERS (21-22-7) – SAT FEB 04 – 07:00PM ET – MSG-B, MSG+

Sabres-Islanders Preview

(AP) -- Ryan Miller is on the cusp of setting a Buffalo Sabres record, but the team's disappointing season is casting a
damper on that accomplishment.

Miller figures to be in net Saturday night trying to become the Sabres' career wins leader when they face the New York
Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

Miller's 234 wins tie him with Dominic Hasek for the most in team history.

"Just hoping to get it," said Miller, the 2009-10 Vezina Trophy winner. "One game at a time."

Miller has reason to be cautious, as the Sabres (21-24-6) are severely underachieving after entering the season as a
favorite to win the Northeast Division. Instead, they're just one point ahead of Montreal and Carolina for the fewest in
the Eastern Conference. (Full Story)

According To STATS

The Sabres are 18-2-2 when allowing two or fewer goals and 16-4-2 when scoring three or more goals.

The Sabres are 3-for-32 on the power play since January 1 (9.4 percent), compared to 19.0 percent this season prior
to January 1.

The Sabres are 9-5-3 (.618) with Tyler Ennis in the lineup.

Ryan Miller was credited with a shutout in Wednesday’s 1-0 shootout loss to the Rangers. His shutout streak currently
stands at 120:51.The longest such streak of Miller’s career was is 161:35, from Nov. 27 to Dec.7, 2010. The loss was
also the first game in the NHL this season that was scoreless through overtime.

Jason Pominville has reached 30 assists for a sixth straight season. That's the longest streak by a Buffalo player since
Phil Housley from 1982-83 to 1989-90 (eight seasons).

The Islanders are 5-1-1 in their last seven games and can reach the .500 mark with a win Saturday against Buffalo.

The Islanders have won both meetings with Buffalo this season, and are 6-1-0 in their last seven games versus the
Sabres.

The Islanders are 12-0-5 when leading after the first period and 13-1-4 when leading after the second.

Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves to record his 304th NHL win yesterday, breaking a tie with Olaf Kolzig for 23rd place
on the all-time list. He is one win shy of Billy Smith’s total. The Islanders legend won 304 games for the Islanders
after winning his first career game for Los Angeles.

Matt Martin leads the NHL with 227 hits - 38 more than the league's next top hitter, Cal Clutterbuck.

Frans Nielsen is 19-for-32 in career shootout attempts. Nielsen's 59.3% success rate ranks first in NHL history among
skaters that have more than 10 shootout attempts.

BUFFALO SABRES

Lineup News & Notes

Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford are both fighting the flu, yet are expected to play tonight. Colin Stuart (knee), TJ Brennan
and Jochen Hecht (concussions), and Thomas Vanek (UBI) are ruled out with injuries; while Marc-Andre Gragnani and
rookie Zack Kassian are projected as tonight's healthy scratches. As for the morning skate, Ryan Miller was the first
goalie off the ice, so he'll be the starting goalie as expected.

Week's Transactions

Tyler Ennis (ankle) and Brayden McNabb (concussion) were activated from IR on Tuesday and Thursday respectively;
McNabb returned to Rochester immediately. TJ Brennan was placed on IR on Wednesday, allowing for the Sabres to
recall Zack Kassian from Rochester.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Lineup News & Notes

Brian Rolston is scratched yet again tonight, while Mark Katic, Rick Dipietro, Mike Mottau, and Marty Reasoner are all
sidelined with long-term injuries. Milan Jurcina was a late-scratch with a laceration on his elbow, so Dylan Reese will
replace him on defense. Evgeni Nabokov got the start last night in Ottawa, so Al Montoya will start tonight.

Week's Transactions

On Monday, Marty Reasoner was placed on IR retroactive to Jan. 6. Kevin Poulin and Rhett Rakhshani were then recalled
on loan from Bridgeport. Poulin was returned to Bridgeport after getting the start in a 5-2 win over Carolina on Tuesday.
Anton Klementyev was placed on unconditional waivers yesterday.

great GDT. Nicely done....

But, the sabres didn't take a "1-0 victory" over the Rangers... we lost that one in the SO....

Ha! I did miss that, but it's the STATS Writer's typo, not mine.

At this point I would rather see them work for a better draft spot then make the playoffs only to lose in the first round.....besides we are pretty bad against the isles....

3-1 Isles

Third goal an empty netter.

Admittedly, I kind of missed last game (rough work hours). Is Boyes really playing center over Gaustad?

Probably going to miss this one... providing I go deep in my charity poker tourney in Rochester this afternoon/evening.

Hopefully we see the effort we saw the last couple games with some finish at the end.

Yeah, he is, see Boyes, Gaustad flourishing after role reversal. I don't recall who has been taking the draws however.

Isles fan coming in peace. Just wanted to say good luck tonight. Always been a fan of Pominville's game.

Also, very nice GDT.

Kevin Snow of Sabres.com recently tweeted: "Miller first goalie off. Looks like he'll be starting tonight."

Edit: Added Ruff + Myers audio from today's morning skate to the OP.

Ruff said he will dress all the forwards for warm-up; also joked that no one had flu symptoms today either.

The key thing here is that the Iles are 5-1-1 in their last 7, including a win last night. This is going to be a very very tough game imo.

Pretty much where I'm at as well.

Until they actually show they can score goals, you have to go with the trend.
