If you are going to go down, may as well go as low as possible and draft a player of the calibre of Grigorenko!

I for one am in agreement with him....

I would be happy with him as GM or Coach with Bergevin as GM? Either way, I think we need character like Roy on the management of this team....

Sorry dude! Did not mean to beat anyone to it! Was happy to read that article. Roy usually says the things that most people do not have the courage to say publicly.

I'm all for roy being coach or gm but if tanking is his message to the team, he can stay the **** where he is....never never tank, it's a message that says " it's ok to lose" think that way and you will be a loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who's to say the guy you draft will ever make the nhl, where will the team be then, oh, i forgot, lets tank again and again....look!! look !! i see empty seats at the bell center. Not the lease bet interested in watching losing seasons and i'm sure a lot of fans would say the same thing. It's been going on for the better part of 2 decades now....We already watched the gainey 5 yr plan, down hill since that started.

Time to win one should be the message to the players and most important, to the fans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, its much better to fight all the way back and finish in 9th spot in the east, that way they will miss the playoffs AND get a crappy pick.

Arent you tired of average players and an average team?

I`m not suggesting that they sucks for 5 years to get 3-4 top end picks, I mean this one year, now is the one chance we have that could get us a legit star forward...

I love his competitive nature, and I loved him as a goalie but I'm not too sure about him being a GM. Not sure if he has the capability to properly judge player potential and player expectations. Mind you I agree with what he said but from where I sit (which admittedly is from a position of limited information/experience) he is a little too emotional to be an effective GM. Coach, well, some potential there maybe but I really don't know enough to say.
Either way, tanking sounds better and better though we will never tank on purpose.

First, Roy talks as an outsider. That's who he is right now. People should undertand that once put in a different position, people adapt and react differently. Oh and to put Roy and loser in the same sentence, that's pretty funny....Who's to say that the guy you draft will ever make the NHL? 'Cause stats shows that top 5 players do. We are not interesting to watch losing seasons are we? No. We preferred dissapointing seasons and rinse and repeat for the past 18 years now. Much better.

There is no greater competitor than Patrick Roy so he is not a guy I would say has a loser mentality. Apparently hes also pragmatic and takes the view if your going down anyway, go down all the way if it means coming up stronger and then maybe being able to actually compete. For Roy , I think its win it all or who cares. Thats actually a winners mentality. Doubt Molson would like it though.

I'd be more more excited to watch good hockey and have a chance at making the playoffs than to watch boring hockey and have a chance to draft in the top 5.

Don't tank. Yet.

Roy shares the same thought process as the average casual fan, not too surprising.

He's not advocating that the Canadiens should tank, he's boosting his own player Grigorenko and saying that if the Canadiens continue to struggle and have the opportunity, they should take Grigorenko.

In any case, I'm against "tanking" and would be against Roy if he suggested any talks of "tanking".

How would you propose this as GM exactly? "Please lose tonight, the other team needs to pass us in the standings." Words of a great GM. What stupidity.

I want a lottery pick(I'd rather have one next season though), but it doesn't mean I'm not happy when the team scores, or mad when they're scored on. I'm still mad about them losing games, but I get over it quicker knowing this season is basically a write off at this point.

I'm selfish, so I'm hoping for a quick one year rebuild. No way I'm sitting through another season like this.

you don't 'tank'...

you sell assets, call up players in the AHL, start da backup a lot, THUS ensuring lots of losses. you know, 'tanking'...

kids get experience, org gets the pick, and onto next year.

Just saw the headline on rds.ca and was like

Way to go for a so called future GM . Let the team play, let the coach and GM manage, sees how it turns out. If it turns out we get a top 5 pick, then so be it. But otherwise...

You enjoy watching good hockey? You are probably satisfied with just making the playoffs and mediocrity. I am a real fan who only accepts excellence, and therefore I prefer to watch bad hockey in the hopes of getting a high pick.

Did I do it right?

I think that should pretty much disqualify him for the GM job.

EDIT: Granted, he's not talking about long-term, but still. He has to realize the Habs are not in a position where they're likely to get caught by either Columbus or Carolina.

I'm not 100% clear on his message:

If he's saying the writing's on the wall, I agree.

If he's saying that we should deliberately lose, I disagree.

If he's saying that we should sell and fill the bank with picks and prospects, and that incidentally results in a better draft pick, I agree.
