WTF was Rinaldo thinking? It isn't possible to defend that in any way, is t?

and nice punch by Kovalchuk! was already impressed just for the glove drop, but that was nice to see. Philly has historically been considered cheap AND tough, but they seemed to have lost something somewhere.

Would've been messier tho.

Schenn 6'0" 200lbs and gets rag dolled (Kovy's 6'3" nearing 240 I think) while Rinaldo is 5'11" and 180 according to wikipedia
Truthfully, not to start a war because I've already stated Rinaldo should get a fine at the very least.

But I think you're underestimating Rinaldo, he's a crazy SOB and can throw them with anyone. It would have been much better than a Kovy/Schenn fight.

Good on Kovalchuk for sticking up for his Captain. Feel bad for Schenn taking that punch, but it's not like anyone forced him to fight. I'm sure Rinaldo's teammates will really respect him for this.

Didn't he have a concussion earlier in the season?

Schenn probably just thought he's not a fighter, no big deal.. He forgot that the man is huge.

Not surprising. Kovalchuk isn't really a fighter but he's very strong. For typical guys who aren't fighters themselves it's a bad idea to go up against him. Very strong guy. Props to both players for fighting. Some same Kovalchuk doesn't care or isn't a leader, he defended his teammate there and didn't back down.

I asked Kovalchuk if he ever had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick before. "First one," he said. Smiled and added, "First of many.

Yup, that was my thinking which is why I stopped at 'going rate'. I think he should get a fine and a game or two IMO.

Yeah, agreed. Though I think it ended up with them two just squared up. Schenn didn't look too sure about it at first, but he did drop them.

Yeah. As a Flyers fan, I wish it was Rinaldo or Sestito or Shelley. I didn't want it to be Schenn, but it happens.

This 100%. I agree with it. Schenn nearly caught Kovy but Kovy dodged and clocked Schenn. I just hope Schenn isn't hurt. He's playing really well right now.

It would be his second concussion this season. :\

Rinaldo is a little punk. I was waiting for him to do something stupid. It's ****** that Schenn had to do his dirty work.

Rinaldo is a dirt bag. Not surprised he started something like that.

Kovy isnt afraid to drop the gloves. He even fought Phaneuf once. He plays ~25 mins a game, thats pretty crazy for a forward.

The first I saw of this was on MSG coming back from break. They showed it in slow motion and it looked like an unnecessary cheapshot by Ronaldo when his team was getting blown out. Upon seeing the entire video including how it developed live this was not the case at all. In fact, Parise was lucky that he didn't get more.

There was a whistle for an offside and after a few seconds elapsed it was Zach Parise who actually initiated contact. Not only did he initiate contact on Ronaldo but he lingered there for whatever reason. The score was 6-2, and Ronaldo simply made a 'get away from me kid I'm out of your weightclass' move. Had Ronaldo dropped his gloves and suckerpunched Parise's lights out I would have understood completely. Parise should watch himself next time.

There should be no punishment for Ronaldo on the play.

What a punch.
Meh, Parise went down really easy. A hell of a punch by Kovy, though.

Yes, an intentional slew foot is no way punishable. Glad to see Kovy step up for his teammate.

Schenn got destroyed but Kovalchuk should've gone for Rinaldo later on instead. That's a blatant slew foot from Rinaldo, I expect he'll get a hearing but no more.

No respect for Rinaldo, **** him
