Trade the pick for an established Dman thats locked up, and a mid first round pick, draft Dalton Thrower, after watching his videos and reading reports this kid would be what we need for years to come him and Hammer on the blue line, will make forwards pay in our own zone, then go out and offer up for Burish and either Asham and Prust, buy out Reasoner and target a recolmation project like Penner...We Add a good prospect to the cupboard,we add grit and some skill and team toughness, and we add size and skill up front with penner or a forward like that and let nino develop for 2 years in Bridgeport
Keith Yandle. Boston born boy. Big, fast and skilled. Only 25 years old. I'm sure Garth would be all over him if he became available. With both Gormley and Rundblad in the system ready to make the jump, you never know.
I don't know what it would take but I'd be willing to part with the 1st without a problem. Just comes down to what else we'd have to add.
I strongly, absolutly, deffinitivly disagree with you, which doesnt happen often. If you see a team that has placed 27th, 30th, 26th, 27th, and 28th, youd say this team is going nowhere. Now you see a team that has placed 27th, 30th, 26th, 27th, and 24th, you can say they are trending back upward after hitting bottom.
**** the draft pick. Keep moving forward. Show the league we dont tank, we have talent, we work hard and that we are on our way up. We draw the line HERE, this far no farther will we sink. next years its top 20.
I stand by the intent of my statement: winning a few games at the end of this playoff-less year will get us just as much (or little) UFA interest as a top 3 pick would.
Interpret that as you will...
Any UFAs who wind up here over the summer prolly already have us on their small list of destinations.

I'm sorry, I dont want you think I was saying anything against you. I truely repect you as a poster here and fellow Islander fan.
I just of the feeling that any loosing is no longer unacceptable. We have been loosing for far too long and its time to change the culture. Im going through the same stuff in my office. We are sending out proposal after after proposal with getting no new jobs. (Im an engineer by the way) to some its ok, its the times, we will get the next one. No, no longer its time to change the culture, we need to fix what we are doing wrong, repair the reputation, win those jobs! Loosing is no longer acceptable.

Pitch it to Snow... That's where it has to start, Wang's theoretical financial constraints or not.
His transactions in hiring a coach and staff, conducting summer business, using the waiver wire (particularly after camp), and making the most of the trade deadline are where he can 'prove' his interest in what you're preaching.
I don't see the idea of "losing is no longer acceptable" being part of his mindfrime.

6'1" 190 LBS. is NOT big.
youre willing to give up this years first + for yandle?
youre either being silly or youre stoned man.........

LOL???
do you have any idea how good Yandle is? And his age makes him the PERFECT candidate to target with a trade involving our first round pick. I'd trade our pick (assuming it will be around 8th-10th overall) and even add in a little extra something (like a later round pick or a mid-tier prospect) to get Yandle.
yes, i do know how good yandle is.
do you know that the kid doesnt have even a hint of a physical game? i doubt the kid could even spell the word "physical".
there is a boatload of offensive defensemen coming up......but not very many physical, hitting, crease clearing defensemen.
What I am NOT liking about this current 'we are out of the playoffs' surge is that Mr. Unconventional Wang may believe (again) that this team can naturally grow into a playoff team without leadership and talent. Keeping and attempting to justify his low cash spend on the team.
.
Absolutely, I see Garth and co. rationalizing a low-spending offseason under the false hope/guise of a strong finish.
That said, if they continue to ascend the standings, perhaps Snow can use that 5-10 range 1st rounder to acquire a top-2 D man that fits the budget?

While he is no Scott Stevens I wouldn't go to the extent you did when describing his physicality. Regardless, he is the type of D-man who doesn't really need to be that physical considering his positional game and his hockey IQ is above average. Just because the guy isn't laying wood every shift doesn't mean he is not an above average defender.
Also, the listings I've seen have him at 6'2. Either way, I would by no means call him small considering the amount of 5'10/5'11 defensemen we have on this team. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "big," but the kid does have the kind of size you would want for a defenseman.

WHAT physicality? he has NONE!!!
guess who has the same number of hits ( according to TSN.COM ) ......alexander ****ing semin.......that hitting machine from washington. a ***** of a forward has the same amount of hits as a defenseman that has even a hint of physical play?
the islanders have 4 offensive defensemen on the way up. they need hitting, physical, punishing defensemen.
gonna do my wish list, keeping in mind that we aren't getting any big names.
Moulson-JT-Brodziak($2.5 - can protect JT a bit. i'd like to see Martin here as well, when JT is getting pushed around...)
Bailey-Nielson-Okposo
Martin-Czikas-Ullstrom
Reasoner-Haley-Mcleod($1.8)
Nino/Dibenedetto are 1st callups
Stuart ($4.3)-Streit
Hamonic-Clark ($2.2)
MacDonald-O'Brien($1.6)
Reese/Donovan 1st call ups. still need gritty dman depth (J Scott?). not sold on the guys in Bport, but you never know
Nabakov
Montoya
Nilsson
Poulin
Parenteau and Grabner sold off for picks. don't mind these two, but i'm all for getting grittier. split up Hammer and Mac so that they can feel more comfortable.
We add some grit and experience. yes, the guys we brought in are grossly overpaid, but that is the reality. when Streit and Nabby have left (which is a high probability, but hopefully not), they are replaced by Donovan and Nilsson
Scotty Bowman has agreed to take over the helm, and asks that Al Arbour be his advisor. gotta throw in a little dreaming. can't hurt...

Brodziak resigned with Minnesota, Brad Stuart? will sign out west. Mcleod will get picked up by a team like Pittsburgh, plus I'd rather look at Prust if he is not resigned by the Rag$. Defensively, I would like Reese as the 7th dman. Donovan/de Haan/Katic/Ness will be on the left side of the third pairing. As far as that elusive top pairing dman. Who knows, I think Keith Yandle is that guy, IMO.

There is a 10% chance Bradley Stuart signs with a team not in California. Snow would have to give him $5 mil a year.
There's Burish, Bitz, and McGrattan among others. I would give Burish $1.5 mil because he's the only one who can actually play.
I'm hoping that we can sign both Sarich and Oduya for $2 mil and $4 respectively. That way we have a good two way pairing we can rely on.
Regarding Clark, McLeod, and O'Brien: Clark is old(35) and should be a last resort. McLeod is decent for a fighter but I don't want him. We have enough leftys. O'Brien will resign with Colorado.

For depth we can sign Eminger at $1 mil or less.
As an Islander fan living in Manitoba, who has seen quite a few jets games when Oduya played here, I would not sign him. He isn't an upgrade on any of the D currently on the roster. His bonehead giveaway to good play ratio was not pretty, Mottau like actually.

I know he played bad in Winnipeg but he is now playing like he was back in New Jersey, probably a bit better, good enough even that the Hawks might resign him.

I agree. Over-rated based on great skating ability. Streit and DeHaan should provide offense from the blue line, hopefully. Bring in a crease-clearer.

How many hits does lidstrom have? Not being funny, just wondering
