So let's say that the oilers finish in the 24th-25th range. Does that satisfy your guy's improvement standards for this season?

Like I said in my previous post, I'm no Horcoff fan, but he does his job on the 1st unit. There is NO problems on the 1st unit. Why does everybody want to take him off?

We're stuck with him. Get over it.
Sadly there is a contingent on this board that feel the need to derail virtually every thread with their Horcoff vitriol.

The lack of understanding that the kids would routinely get killed playing the tough minutes in lieu of Horcoff is very apparent.

There was a time not that long ago when Gagner was the target. Thats quieted down quite a bit lately.

Gagner is 22 year old. You can't have the same excuses for a vet that is eating up top minutes.

If you suddenly think Horcoff is going to explode offensively and get multiple points in multiple games then you are in for a rude surprise. I think he has scored his last goal in a long long time. He is slowing down so much compared to the beginning of the year. Renney has killed some of the vets by playing them so many minutes. You can see it with Ryan Smyth, and even more so with Horcoff. At least Smyth still has that one constant in his game that he can reach and contribute, which is great is being great in front of the net and a good penalty killer.

What is Horcoff's claim to fame? Faceoffs? how is that going by the way? I would like to see a stat with how his faceoff percentage is in the offensive zone. He seems to lose all the big draws offensively.

My hope would be to finish "0.500" - so 82 points. I think that would be a pretty successful season given the injuries and the development of the young ones.

I've been known to fling some crap at Horcoff as well over time but it is amazing how he gets worked into almost every conversation on HF Oilers threads.
I suggested that Gagner be on the first unit and the other guy said Horcoff fit the bill properly so I answered that with my own opinion. Horcoff was apart of the conversation before I even insinuated that he isn't good enough to be on the first unit pp.

Well if you want to turn Sam Gagner into Holmstrom, Smyth-type player to screen the goalie and , then OK.

I'm NO Horcoff fan, but the hate for him on the 1st unit powerplay is unwarranted. Somebody HAS to be in front of the net. There's no problem with the first unit.
Honestly, how many of our pp goals are redirections or from screens in front of the net? Not many. You're talking like Horcoff is a better **** disturber infront of the net than Gagner is.....that isn't true. Oh, and stop with these stupid comments that bring other players in as comparisons that have no place in the conversation. Horcoff isn't even doing what Holmstrom does so bringing him up was completely useless.

Why are we whining about our better ranked power play? Is it not third in the NHL?

If they haven't already, they should have talks with Hemsky as to what his outlook is for the future. Both sides should be honest and reasonable. I understand that the season is going on and often it is the agent you have to talk to but wouldn't that have at least talked during the All Star break?

yes. coming into the season i expect us to gain 15-20 points but stil be well out of the playoffs.

PP, PK, FO, GD all improved. if we got up 15 points too thats pretty significant, we weren't going to go up 50% in points in one year.

No Renney saw an opportuntity to give Belanger a big boost, he's a veteran coming off a couple good games. He can be an important player going forward, give him a shot to get his season going. He can saw off a lot of solid competition, this is a guy who played a top 6 role on a playoff team last season.

Yeah but shootout?

Look, its one thing to give a guy thats comfortable in that regard an opportunity to boost his confidence if theres a reasonable chance it might pay out there.

When I look at Belangers shootout its as if he hasn't even practiced the shootout, really had no idea what to do, so he figures to avoid embarassing himself too much he just wires one wide and high and skates back to bench hoping nobody noticed he had no idea what he was doing.

If anything that makes a guy feel worse when he's obviously not prepared to give it a go.

I can only imagine a veteran player on this club without hands the last thing he wants is to have that abject lack of skill showcased in front of all the talent on this young roster.

Only managed to catch the last half of the OT and SO, but Gagner with another 3 points, WOW Awesome.

Problem is that Horcoff has spent his fair share of the season being "killed playing the tough minutes" as well.

Just because he's the best available option on a 29th place team doesn't mean he's actually any good at it.

I love how the Oil beat the best team in the west and it generates a whopping 5 pages of discussion.
If we lose, there's about 24, 25 pages of moaning.

Well, the forums did go on the fritz right at the end of the game.

There wasn't really an intact PGT until about 45-50 minutes after the game ended.

Ya there were at least a half dozen PGT threads and the mods were doing their best NHL refereeing impressions trying to keep everyone under control but ****ing things up royally in the process. Sometimes you just gotta just throw away the whistle and let 'em play.

Hey now!

It was the league(the servers) screwing up, not the refs!
