Having your name on an NHL jersey? Cool or Lame?

I think it's so tacky. I hate it. It's especially bad when people wear a famous number plus a c and then you see their name there. Ugh.

I think you HAVE to chirp that. "When did you get drafted?". "What line did they put you on?"

Thoughts? IMO it's either blank (only the front matters), or a player's jersey. On the rare instance it can be something funny like that NHL commercial. A Carolina one that says "In Ward We Trust". Or a Toronto one like "Reim Time" or something.

But I think wearing your actual team's jersey from your club is 100% acceptable and why wouldn't it be?

Why do I care? Personally its not my cup of tea, I'd put a players name on the back, but why should I care what you do with your $200 hockey sweater?

Some people don't like that players get traded so often/leave often... so they know their jersey with their name on it will last.

Personally, I'm not a fan either... but whatever.

You're right. I'll probably never get a name on the back of my Jersey, mine or a real players.... They just come and go too often.

If I had to chose the option of a player's last name, or my own, I'd probably chose my own, because it will last, and I am proud of my name and family, and it means a lot to me. Plus the number I'd chose would be 64, one that I don't think many players in the league has ever had, so.... its not like I'd pretend to be a player that I'm not...

I think in Toronto it's weird not to wear one.

Lol it's fine I guess if they choose a original number, but if they have "Smith" and number 13, ya that's pretty lame I would say. But whatever, nbd.

Lame unless a player had the same last name as you.

Yeah but say having a Salming jersey. Even a Kessel one. A Gardiner one I would get because I love him as a player. Who cares if he gets traded down the road? That's different.

But having "Cheung" on the back while having the number 99 with a "C" is super, super lame.

I'm in a bind in Saskatoon. As we have WHL team and players are coming and going every few years. I would probably just get my favorite player at the time or even just settle for my name and favorite number just for the hell of it.

Always blank or favorite player. You'll always get chirped at games otherwise. Unless you have a really awesome, cool name, don't do it.

I'd get a player that came through the team, was there for a couple years or so, and has gone on to be an NHL star.... think hard.

Season Team League GP G A Pts PIM
1983–84 Saskatoon Blades WHL 72 23 45 68 225
1984–85 Saskatoon Blades WHL 64 32 55 87 253

Who's this statline belong to??? Hint: Former Leaf.

I think it would be cool to have your name if you just hung it up in your house. But wearing it around = definitely lame.

I'd only ever get a jersey with a former player who's put tenure in or that I loved. I've got two Sakic jerseys, a Tucker, and a Roberts. But I only got the Roberts after he retired, but he was just so awesome in his time here I couldn't help it

I always have a blank team jersey and my favorite player (Datsyuk) jersey. You don't see Datsyuk jerseys ever.

As much as I love Lidstrom and Zetterberg, it's going to be a great loss when Datsyuk retires. So dynamic. Most people consider him a top 5 player in the league and I still consider him underrated at that.

Did you see him at the all-star game when he was trying 10%?

I still remember the Sharks vs Wings series last playoffs when the Wings were down by two in game 7 with 6 minutes to go. He scores an absolute beauty backhander coming down the wing and then almost gets another with two minutes to go. Too bad they lost.

I really don't see the problem with it. I think it symbolizes a person being committed to the team as a whole, rather than just a specific player. If you're going to chirp someone for that, I think you need to re-evaluate what kind of fan you actually are.

If you don't play for the team your name shouldn't be on a jersey. Unless it's the same name as a player. Wearing a blank jersey shows you're committed to the team.
