I posted this thread with hope a good discussion on match-ups would come up was all.

The sixth place spot as i looked today seems like the prize spot to be in if you believe the top five in the Conference will be some combination of rangers, philly, pens, boston, and caps/jets/florida battling for the first in the division or nothing(the way it looks right now).

To me it looks like a 9 team race at this with the panthers/caps fighting to possibly knock the other right out of the play-offs. I happen to think the caps are a mess, and might be sellers at the deadline, and will move Semin. They might get better in the the deal also, but i doubt that.

I would rather be trying to shut down Versteeg than the Ovechkin caps(even without Semin) too. The Bruins going against Brodeurs devils could possibly be a upset if Brodeur gets hot also.

The leafs are very capable of 6th i think, but any higher would be a tall order. With that said, sixth also seems like it might be a good spot. Thats all i was going to be getting at for the touchy.

But on a good note, I think we will finish 7th and play the Rangers.

Most years, if you can't finish 1 - 3, you want to finish 6th. 4 - 5 are usually death seeds in that you frequently end up having to face 3 top teams to make the show.

People people people, don't even think we made the playoffs, there's 30 games left in the season and for us to make it we need at least 17 wins 94 points, people say 93 is needed to make it, so If the Leafs play bit over .500 hockey I'm happy.

Although, how have we done against New York, Florida and Boston in the playoffs? Playoff hockey isn't regular season hockey. I want to get in and see what happens, no matter who they're against.

And Pens. Pens are catchable as well now. I highly doubt Crosby will be back this year. I hope any way. If they win Edmonton game, they'll only be 2 points back.

Burke going into this trade deadline ,and evaluating what he needs has to factoring in to the equation, how do you beat the bruins if you met them. The first thing you realize is, your not going to be able to match them physically with additions at the deadline most likely. You could get some toughness, but a big/long contracted skill player might be easier to obtain than a tough cap friendly player.

So it makes sense to go for more speed/skill,and focus on being disciplined. Burke going that route would work against all teams i think. Maybe its a way for him to trade Connolly/d-man in a package.

We'll see soon.

Whatever matchup that skips the Bruins for the first round...
If the Leafs can come out of the first they will have a better chance at Ottawa...

Remember, it has been so long that at first they might look like Bambi the first time he stood up... but once they remember what the playoffs are all about, I think they could get on a roll...

Can't win a cup without someone dealing with Boston - they should go into the trade deadline with "how to beat Boston in a 7 game series" as their main focus.

I think it was Mirtle who tweeted we have to 14-12-4 to hit 92 points. That should be easily doable. 15-11-4 is still more than doable.

Anyone but the Bruins Id be fine with to play in the playoffs other than maybe the penguins with a healthy Crosby.

Looks like it wasn't a concussion after all but a misdiagnosed problem with his vertebrae which is fixable. Good news for him. When he finally gets fixed up and gets back he should be around for a while.

I heard it was a soft tissue tear? I'd say it was a misdiagnosis!

I get what you're saying, but none of these players or coaches were even here the last time we were in the playoffs. This is where a guy like Connolly, Lupul, Kessel etc. Will have to shine.. have to

Historically, they need to play .500 the rest of the way plus 3 extra points.

If anybody can help us out by beating the Devils rather than only being useless when it's inconvenient to us, then sure.

Two teams i dont wanna play: Philly or Boston. Any other team we play against, i feel we'll have a legitimate chance to win a playoff series.

I thought it was a vertebrae issue. i don't remember exactly. you could be right though.

but bottom line he was misdiagnosed and now they know what was wrong all along and are trying to fix him up.

I'm pretty confident we could do well vs. the Rags or Pittsburgh, Boston scares me and the Flyers always seem to have our number. So as long as we don't play Boston or Philly I think we have a good chance of making it to the 2nd round.

But then again it's an entire new season, even if we make it to the PO's. Obviously our best chance though is vs. that 3rd seed.

If we're going to get into the playoffs... 6th would certainly be the position to play from.

While I think we match up well against the Rangers, teams like Washington, Florida and Winnipeg are definitely within our compete level, and should we get past them, there's a fairly good chance we'd get the Rangers in round 2 as opposed to the Flyers/Penguins.

As another poster mentioned, pretty much anyone but the Bruins, although I think that should be expanded to include the Flyers/Pens. That being said, very little could make me happier as a Leaf fan than to knock out the Bruins in the first round, as unrealistic as that is.
