Subban needs to get out of this sophomore slump and get his shots through.... quicker release, dont get blocked and dont miss net by 5 feet.

If he ends up being traded and comes back (which i don't see happening), should we expect a NTC?
Why not? He's a competitor, he'll be happy to have a shot at the cup this summer instead of being out of the playoffs. Its happened before that UFA rentals signed back with the team that traded them.

Maybe we keith tkachuk him ? Explain him that we appreciate his contribution but need to rent him for the pick and that we are gonna be bidding for him in July and that we would welcome him back.

win win

If push comes to shove, if the offer is a 2nd or legit youngster, I'll take it

You guys think 2mil is too much for Moen? I'd actually be happy if they did that. Only way I don't do this as GM is if someone offered a high 2nd (or higher) for him. Otherwise, he's an important role player for us at 2mil.

Ditto. With his best season here coming at this opportune moment, you kind of have to offer a raise. So 3yrs at $1.75M per is my max too.

But I also remember the two season prior to this one. And while Moen was "useful", I don't think I would have felt quite the same about retaining him or giving him a raise based on those two complete seasons.

Easy enough to find out if he's even interested in signing here. Ask him. Easy enough to find out what the market could bring in a trade. PG probably has a decent idea of that. It's not going to be tough to make the decision from there.

Might as well add some extra picks.

Moen is a nice heart and soul guy for a playoff team, but we aren't a playoff team and he can be replaced next year.
This.

Just take Prust or one of the other guys out there who are tough and can play a regular shift and some PKing. He's not irreplaceable.

Moen from here on in its a year at a time. I'd sign him 1 year at 1.75...let's not make mistakes with long contracts to the wrong players, example Spacek was a year to much.

Moen is 29... Spacek was 36 when we signed him.

no way you get him for only 1 year. He's gonna be 30 by July and he's been a realiable durable player coing off his best season in years. He's gonna be looking at at least 2 but more likely 3 yrs.

Personally, I am in full rebuild mode so I find it hard not to like the 2nd rounder he'd probably bring back

Problem is you need moen and another guy. Well need two bottom 6 forwards who can play and fight. I'd rather habs keep moen and add another guy like gaustad.

I have no issue going 3 years with Moen but not at 2 mil cap hit. Depending what the offers are out there, id the only way to get an extension done is at 2 mil or more and we can get a 2nd or maybe a guy like Clifford, would be hard to pass up. Plus a guy like Prust may be cheaper next summer.

Gaustad is a panzy and will cost too much. He was making 2.3 mil this year.

We don't necessarily need him but a strong energy line center OR a true shutdown center like pahlsson are my preferred choices.

You will have 3 guys set up to be part of that fourth line/press box next year.

Moen or Replacement.
White
Blunden

Plus you'll have Conboy back from injury pushing for a spot, and hopefully Schultz will continue to develop so he becomes an option by midseason.

The only real question is who centres the fourth line, because none of those guys is really a centre.

Im pretty sure we need another top 6 guy. Then you can drop bourque or gionta on 3rd line. Adding another legit top 6 guy would solidify all our lines. Leblanc Eller Bourque or Gionta can be a good line. Gotta go for a top 6

I'd do it , we're going to split hairs over a couple hundred K? Moen is probably worth 2 on the open market now. He can skate, pk, throw some hits, fight if he needs to, and put up a couple of goals. I would keep him on because he won't affect the rebuild of this team and you still need a tough guy in the lineup no matter what.

You sign moen at 2m if that's what it takes. It's not overpaying by much if any.

2M$ is a bit too much but I'm ok with 1,75M$ for Moen. And I really hope we will resign him
