I'm sure a lot of people here remember a movie called "The Passion Returns" about the 92-93 Leafs. It always brings back great memories for me and i'd recommend it to any diehard Leaf fan!
It's interesting for me to think about the comparisons to the team that Burkie has built. Maybe Fletcher still has something to do with that
afterall, he did land Grabovski (Gilmour) to kick things off
I've watched those 6 part movies on youtube a few times. I don't think anyone has the heart of either Clark or Gilmour on this team. Yes phaneuf and Schenn have heart but not like Gilmour or Clark. The closest comparison I can maybe see is grabo. I haven't seen a play like clark or Gilmour since maybe roberts and tucker.

This thread reminded me that I should probably get around to uploading the full thing on youtube as a 1 shot vid instead of my watermarked 6 part one.
That said, I still think the 93 team gets deified a bit much. They were obviously good, but you'd think the team somehow won multiple cups in the same year, rather than get eliminated in the semi-finals. It's impossible to compare anyone to anyone because everyone on that team will forever be seen as above where they are, even the ones who weren't even all that solid.
PS - To OP, Mike Gartner wasn't even a Leaf until the year after

"....the makings of a classic" That game 7 against Detroit...still gives me chills. And how the hell did they not count Zezel's shot in the last minutes of the third? Just by the angle alone, it was obvious it crossed the line.
Great video. Great times. Those two months were special. For those who don't remember it, or were too young to experience it, it truly was incredible.

Borschevsky!
lol...with the chess pieces thing about putting Borschevsky back in the lineup? Awesome.

All true. The 1993 team didn't really get any further than the 1994, 1999 and 2002 teams, but are higher up on the pedestal than any of them. The way they lost in game seven was also a major meltdown (albeit against Gretzky in top form) but that gets glossed over.
I think the interesting part is Burke has us primed (in terms of position) that a solid acquisition could vault us a long ways next season, which would be the exact same circumstances and exactly 20 years since that film. Gilmour came over and the Leafs were a low finisher but blew the league away the next year. We have an abundance of parts, hopefully he makes it happen.
Really, while I know this is daydreaming stuff, imagine if two moves fell into our lap: a trade for Eric Staal and Parise going UFA.
While there's guys I'd hate to give up, you have to give to get so say Burke talked Rutherford into Schenn, Colborne, MacArthur and maybe a pick. Big price but imagine a top 2 lines of:
Lupul-Staal-Kessel
Kulemin-Grabovski-Parise
We could challenge any team in the league with that.

Borschevsky!
Borschevsky lived two blocks over from me in Lawrence Park that year. I remember he lived with his mom and we'd go to his place like every day after school and she'd make him sign everything we had with us, lol.
I still have boxes of the stuff in storage. Such a shame about his spleen problems, he was such an underrated beauty.
Nobody on the current roster is worthy of Glimour or Clark status.
Not even close. Corson,Tucker, Roberts maybe even through Muller in. They were the closest players we have had since them, that brought the intangibles that Clark and Gilmour brought to the leafs.
I do like Lupul over Andreychuk, as Lupul has other scoring areas besides 5 feet away from the net, and a lot more dangerous with and without the puck. Other than that, i haven't seen anything top the 92-93-94 performances by Gilmour.
My buddy does a great Bryan Murray imitation yelling and screaming about Borchevsky with the lisp everytime we see him being interviewed. Still makes me howl.
