Amnesty Buyouts

If I remember correctly there was no limit on the buyouts a team could do in the expiring cba agreement. That said aside from the obvious (Gomez), who else would our GM buyout if he had the opportunity and why?

Gomez for sure....Markov if he's still not 100% by the buyout period.

Why buyout Markov? He's not gonna hit our cap space until he's back from injury. If we buy him out, it will.

Well, it's disturbingly quiet on the Markov recovery front. Leading me to believe he's no closer today then he was last summer. His dollars could go a long way to locking up the RFA talent we have.

Gionta is another matter altogether. He is definitely a leader on the ice and has the grit and determination we covet. Is he worth 5 million over the next 2 years? This the big question for me. I'm on the fence as far as his value based on this season of on again off again injuries.

If we are truly in rebuild mode, then these are the kind of things that need to be assessed imho.

No, that's what amnesty buyout means - no cap hit.

We don't even know for sure if there will be an amnesty buyout, never mind the provisions surrounding it.

Depending upon the percentage I would think the NHLPA would have no problem with the buyout provision.

They showed clips of Markov skating on his own between periods during both games this weekend.

--------

I don't see the reason for having buyout provisions and I doubt the majority of teams would be in favour of it. Most of the top 10 wealthiest teams would be in favour of it but once you get past them, I'm not so sure.

I believe last time, each team could only buy out 1 contact with no penalty

Well considering the Top 10 wealthiest teams have been profit sharing and carrying the rest of the league I would tell them to shove it.

How have they been profit sharing?

thats a good start, two players you don't get 5 cents worth out off anymore.
I don't want Gionta back, slow starts to the season, small and aging. time to move on. He could be our next gomaz.
Markov= bad knees
12 mill tied up here...outbound both please

Gomez and Kaberle. Kaberle isn't overpaid, however he does not have a spot on this team past this year. He brings nothing to the team we don't already have. Unless we can flip him, buyout. Maybe Rene Bourque, just because of how long his deal is.

If the Canadiens start a donation box tomorrow for buying out Gomez, they would get the money needed within 3 hours. What was the amount like $10m or less? That's like 20 bucks from each fan. Its nothing. Buy this garbage out now!

Five hundred thousand fans would need to give 20 dollars.
