But why?

I'm at a loss as to the reason for his being on McLellan's/DW's **** list.

2/6 A. Murray

TSNBobMcKenzie 9:09am via Web SJS put Andrew Murray on waivers. BOS puts Zach Hamill on waivers. And, as reported earlier, CAR puts Anthony Stewart on waivers.

Guessing that with Havlat, Sheppard, Wingels on IR, one or more are close to return and they need a roster spot.

If it were Sheppard wouldn't they just send McCarthy back without waivers?

I had no idea TOM fell below McCarthy, Ferriero and Wingels on the depth chart. Something else must be going on or he became a negative influence?

Maybe they are doing both? Waive Murray, send McCarthy back down, clear roster spots/cap space for someone coming off IR + trade?

Hell if I know, seems odd. Murray was excellent depth, and cheap, why waive him now?

I'm thinking the same thing. Might be DW is prepping for a move and will send McCarthy down when Havlat or Sheppard is ready. Ferriero was also on the 4th line last game, maybe they liked that look.

Sheppard must be so good that he causes a team that is thin up front to put forwards on waivers.

Probably something behind the scenes that we'll never hear about. Also, why was he excellent depth? He was fast. That's about it.

McCarthy and Ferriero stay but TOM waived??? Come on now. Ferriero has been lacking lately, to say the least.

I'm also confused by this. I thought the line of him, Desi, and Winchester looked good in their time together. Certainly the best 4th line we've had all year.

that does seem very strange.

Looks like he is UFA next season, and Sheppard is probably coming off of IR soon.

hes a cheap find for a lot of teams who need a 3/4 grinder with speed/strength. probably trying to bait a trade.

WTF? TOM is SO much better than McCarthy (and both can play center or wing...). I understand keeping Ferriero in case of a needed 2nd line fill-in with Clowe/Couture, but over McCarthy? No way...

Winchester-Desi-TOM was such a good 4th line...unless we're picking up Gaustad?

You don't put guys on waivers in the NHL to do that...

The only thing I can think of is if they expect him to be claimed, then they could be doing it to free up a contract spot, but that's a stretch.

Maybe he asked to be waived because he wasn't getting any playing time.
