We've had Moen before, and I thought he was nothing too special, but just for the purpose of conversation...what would MTL fans want for him from the Sharks?

The guy is the perfect 3rd liner. Those type of players are critical in the playoffs. Case in point, Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley.

If we could get a 2nd round pick i would be more than happy. But basically we would want a pick in return as opposed to a prospect.

So Moen for 2nd (#55 overall from Vancouver for White) would be good?

I'd be good with that. SHould be fair value though i wouldn't be surprised if he returned more in trade around the deadline. GM's tend to overpay.

Right now I am pretty sure that teams are offering Gauthier a 3rd for Moen. However, the 2012 draft is supposed to be a "weak" one. Come deadline day I could see a team offering 2nd + prospect for Moen plus low pick. Grit on the 3rd line is a very valuable commodity. Especially if one wants to get past Nashville and St. Louis in the West.

Isn't this one of those "been there, done that" situations?

The key thing to note about him is that he is not overly physical and is not flashy. However, he has good speed, positioning and strength on the boards. For example, the Red Wings arent a "physical" team, but they are strong on the puck, which is what Moen is.

Yep, been there, done that and won the cup with Moen who scored the cup-clinching goal for the Ducks!

Hard to say, he's having a career year. He's a really good 3rd liner. We'd probably looking at a 2nd or 3rd depending on interest (and there seems to be a lot of interest in him from the buzz). I don't think you can rule out him resigning here though, he's been a great 3rd liner. He's like Moore, except Moore is a better passer and a center (and a good face-off guy) and Moen is a better scorer, better defensively and more physical (or gritty). Going rate for guys like that seems to be 2nd rounders or 3rd + prospect.

Moen is a good soldier who would be solid for any team looking to go on a Cup run, but I think the asking price will get a bit too steep for some teams. He's going to be a popular asset on deadline day (or before).

Really hope the Flyers get in on Moen. If there's one guy who would be a perfect fit for the Flyers bottom six it would be him, unless a top faceoff guy is available. I don't consider Gaustad to be available.

Done deal on the 2nd round pick. I don't think the Habs are going to want to pay Moen fair market value on his next contract. Moen will earn a minimum of 2M / season next year - maybe more. May as well get what you can for him rather than overpaying him in the off-season...

I mostly agree with what you said but Moen isn't a better scorer than Moore. Prior to this year, Moore had more goals than Moen for 4 straight years. Not to mention that Moen's 9 goals have come off only 44 SOG, a 20% shooting percentage is never a good sign for sustainability (case in point: 1 goal in 22 GP prior to his injury).

To San Jose: Travis Moen + Hal Gill
To Montreal: Nick Petrecki + 2nd round draft pick in 2012

Future defense:

Gorges - Subban
Petrecki - Beaulieu
Tinordi - Emelin

I'd only be down if we then trade Doug Murray for a 2nd/3rd line tweener like Nielsen from NYI.

Marleau-JT-Pavs
Clowe-Cooch-Nielsen
Moen-Handzus-McGinn
Winchester-Desjardins-Mitchell
Ferriero

Vlasic-Burns
Gill-Boyle
White-Braun
Vandermeer/Demers

Nemo
Greiss

This would be idiotic. Our PK could not possibly get any better than it is (its trending at almost 90% kill rate for quite some time now).

Moen was useless the first time and will be useless the second time. On top of that, we'd be paying for him twice.

I don't buy it.
