28 scouts executives at the leaf/oiler game tonight
Renney is not helping Tambellini showcase Sutton much if Oiler's management have plans of dealing him. Sutton is scratched tonight in place of Tom Gilbert.
Oilers are here to win, enough defensive defenseman in the line up, I like Sutton but it's nice to see Gilbert back.
Bob McKenzie just said on TSN that there is "nothing going on with the Leafs" and that there is a good chance they will stand pat at the deadline, so you've gotta think most of those scouts are watching the Oilers.
Makes sense to me. They should be looking at next season when they can put their stamp on the East. Trading a bunch of prospects and picks wont do them much good now.
I think thats BS, frankly. Leafs have a log jam at defense, with Mike "Alternate Captain" Komisarek currently occupying the press box. Burke will move someone off the blue line.
Who would they move, sans Komisarek? I doubt anyone takes on Komisarek's contract, and I don't see why the Leafs would add to him to trade him (a highly likely scenario should they trade him) when there is a realistic chance that there are amnesty buyouts with the CBA expiring.
Doubt they move any of Schenn, Gardiner, Gunnarsson, Phaneuf, Franson, or Liles. Do any Leafs fans believe that Schenn could be traded?

This.
They are there to video tape him and brainwash their players into playing like him. They'll go Clockwork Orange on 'em.
Anyone know if there's any Pittsburgh representatives there?
If 22 teams are represented, that leaves 6 teams not there.
Carolina, Columbus, Islanders, Montreal, Tampa Bay & Buffalo would be good guesses not to be buyers.

BUF, CBJ, LA, MTL, NJ, NYI, NYR, SJ teams not there

20 teams have scouts/reps at EDM/TOR game. These teams DON'T have anyone, not counting 2 clubs playing: BUF, CBJ, LA, MTL, NJ, NYI, SJ"
EDIT : A NYR scout is there... so make that 21.
Also teams that have more than one scout are Jets, Ducks, Blues, Canucks, and Blackhawks.

Some certainly do.
Outside of Phaneuf, Liles, and perhaps Gardiner, folks seem to believe anyone could be available (at the right price) to add some size to our top-six, or as a carrot in some sort of package deal to secure a good centre. We could probably use some scoring depth in the bottom of our lineup as well.
Personally, I like having depth on the blueline. Injuries happen. Even having a veteran like Mike Komisarek step into the lineup could be invaluable to a young club trying to make the post season (mind you, his ticket price undoubtedly sinks his value like a stone on the open market).

I don't know why media reports that scouts are at games. That's what pro scouts do. When there are few games around the league and a game is in a location close to where many scouts reside, there will be loads of scouts there. Even more so close to trade deadline.

If there's 10 scouts at any given game you can expect a 5 page thread. Somethings brewing.

I'm not so sure about that. Burke has talked at length, how much he values depth on defence. The Leafs are deep on D, and they are playing well for the most part. Unless someone blows Burkes socks off with an offer, has a chance to use a D to address a major need, I don't see any moves happening.
They are lilkley watching Hemsky to see if there are any lingering effects from the Kronwall blast before making a final offer.
Interesting that Sutton is not playing, he has been one of the Oilers best D htis year....

Agreed.
Burke is a big proponent of defensive depth, and with the sporadic goaltending of the Leafs, he should be. I would be shocked if he traded any of his NHL defenseman. I don't think the Leafs will be making any major moves as of yet, nor do I believe they should. Before they make a blockbuster deal, they should see what the team they have can do; see if they can get into the playoffs, how they perform down the stretch, and how they perform in the playoffs if they do qualify.
The team is in the process of a retool, very similar to the Rangers from 09-11. Their major moves will come from free agency if they plan to make any big moves.

There are already lingering effects from his other injuries.
I'd be shocked if Hemsky were traded, to be honest. There's no doubt he's available, but Tambellini probably won't get what he wants for Hemmer. At most, I see any (sane) team giving up a 2nd and a prospect.
