I think it's about time Laviolette allocates time specifically for shootout practice. Yeah, we'll probably make the playoffs regardless of shootout performance, but you can say goodbye to our hopes if he have to play the Rangers and Bruins in the first 2 rounds.

From what I can tell, tonight was the most saves in a shutout against the Flyers since Dave Dryden for Chicago in 1969 (he had 48). The Flyers' team record is also 48 by Darren Jensen in 1986 against St. Louis.

Wayne Fish said that that is the record. Unless, of course, you are Wayne Fish.

Shootout is a joke. Longer OT 4v4 to 3v3 to tie.

There were some positives from this game...
The shutout at home with Bryz. I thought Schenn looked awesome again whether he was on the puck or not he was working real hard. I was really starting to like the Briere Simmonds and Schenn line a lot. G obviously did not score, but looked very good. The dinamic duo of carle and bourdon didn't have giveaways that turned into goals, even though they had plenty of giveaways...

The game was so god damn frustrating though. Thanks Nabokov for ruining what I thought was a very good overall game by the flyers.

No he wasn't.

Even if a goalie has a shutout he was still not good enough Some people just like to complain about any little thing. I thought Penguin fans were bad.

practice the ******* shootout. I agree. the shooters, the goalies, everyone. Everyone knows how to beat Bryzgalov in the shootout. Seems everyone knows the shooters moves as well.
I still hate the ******* shootout but I am starting to get annoyed that this team since the SO was introduced has one of the worst SO records ever. Its like they dont even care.
Another game, another loss on home ice. The Flyers have the fewest amount of home wins of ALL playoff teams in the NHL. 12-8-5 isnt going to get it done.

Very annoying game.

Rookie mistakes by Bourdon and Carle on d.

Giroux, Voracek style, should have had 5 goals but ends up with 0.

Bryz played very well, but Nabokov was better, including the shoot out.

I know we had 45 shots or whatever, but I cant think of any great saves Nabokov had to make. That one where talbot had a short handed chance he shot right into Nabokov.

Simmonds, Hartnell had been doing such a great job of getting in front of the net but not tonight. When you pair Briere with Simmonds, Simmonds has to go along the boards to win puck battles since Briere camps out behind the net. The two do not compliment each other at all and I think its no surprise that Simmonds really did alot of damage in front of the net in briere's absence.

id go with

Hartnell G Jagr
Read Briere Voracek
Simmonds Schenn Talbot
Rinaldo Couturier Sestito

Only the Flyers can get a shutout and still manage to lose

They don't care because the coach thinks its a mockery to the game. You can hear it whenever he talks. He thinks it's a gimmick. That's why they don't practice it.

His mindset is probably if we're in the shootout then either we were unlucky, like this game, or we're doing something wrong in the actual game to put ourselves in this position. And we need to work on correcting what we're doing wrong because that's going to matter more in the long run.

i like wayne simmonds, but at no point should he be taking shootout attempts instead of giroux. like jtown said, simmer and hartnell are good when they are in front of the net getting the dirty goals.

at the other end of the ice, bryz is downright awful in the shootout this year. i still think he's giving up too much of the net by staying in the crease until the shooter is in the circles.

I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too.... Finally get a shutout, but in a losing cause. It's like a kick in the balls.

If they aren't going to practice it they may as well start pulling the goalie in OT, since letting the game get to a shootout is practically conceding.

Well they are practicing the shootout in practice right now. My twitter timeline blew up with play by play of all the shots by all the beat writers.

The problem is that if Flyer shooters are going against Flyer goalies, one of that group is coming out with an unrealistically elevated sense of accomplishment.

The beat writers are taking the shots? We're doomed!
