There was a 100% chance a West team could have had it this season, and the fact it was in a non-AHL city shows not one wanted it. I'll even venture out on a limb and say there was a 100% chance that if a West team wanted it in 2013 it would be out there.
Before you make that statement you have to ask the question what western teams volunteered to host it.

The same reasons why no teams this season want to host it. It's a lot of extra work for the team's staff with little monetary reward since it's not a team event, but a league event.

My guess is costs are too high. The host team is responsible for just about everything and perhaps shifting everyone for the game out west makes it cost prohibitive. Plus it's a ton of extra work, so you need to have a great staff willing to take on that work or have the ability to hire extra people.
The Sharks did it and have sworn up and down they will probably never do it again unless they get more control over how things are done. The AHL is pretty fanatical about the way things have to be done and a lot of teams just don't want to deal with it.

Are you still on this "AHL is anti-West" conspiracy kick after all these years? Let it go already. Yes, every Western team bows out.....and on average of the past few years, less than one Eastern team a year steps up......CONSPIRACY!
No one has wanted this game. I was absolutely floored when my father told me he had heard on the radio Providence was getting it next year.

I have no doubt that the building will be full. It certainly helps that a number of people attending don't need to stay overnight.

I spoke to my contact in the Hershey front office and it was all about cost. Hershey hoped to host it as an outdoor event at the stadium in honor of our 75th anniversary, but could not overcome the cost of hosting the event.
At this point please color all Hershey fans shocked that Yingst backed out of something because the profit margin wasn't there.
Providences mindset is to pile the kids into the rink. It's all about the kids. Coming from a Season ticket holder for 5 years, had to finally drop to a 5 game pack. They raised the prices after 2 losing seasons(another raise coming next season and were in last right now) Where they get there tactics I have no clue.
But to them it's all about bringing in the youth groups, squirt teams for intermisson, pre and post game games. Also the kids singing the Anthems. I just assume hear the American Anthem and sit down. Nope. On games we have a Canadian team, 3 songs, American and Canadian Anthems and they also do God Bless America. Ahhh. I just want to watch some hockey.
The whole kids thing is ok to a degree, but the ushers are the worst, some know how to tell kids who sneak down wherever they want to move. Others don't give a crap. And the parents are the worst to. I saw one guy tell his kids to just move back down after the usher told them to go back to their seats. That really pissed me off. But eventually the guy came back down and booted them again. Reason it annoys me. I paid good money for years and then had to drop to a lower package. I'm all set seeing someone sitting up high just walk right down and sit wherever. Those seats cost good money so if you want to sit there buy the tickets! Some ushers also don't know the concept that you tell people not to go to their seats during play. I swear I've been looked at funny for waiting, because I'm courteous lol.
They also cram these "enter to win" papers down your throat. To win prizes and such. But you end up on a timeshare phone call list even though I think someone said they denied it.
Any businessman who doesn't wouldn't be in business for long.

In retrospect, glad management at least pulled off the outdoor event. Should be fantastic. Also, I just confirmed with Hershey that the 2012-2013 season ticket package is for 37 games with the ability to buy the outdoor game early.
