Perhaps if they got the feeling that Whitney won't re-sign with them and want to get something in return while his value is great in a thin market for reasonably priced forwards. I just dont know what we could offer them without sacrificing one of our core players. Even though he's a UFA....$3 million for a guy playing on the 1st line and has more points than anyone on the Sharks....I'm salivating.

Apparently Doan rumored to the Sharks too.

Why not both!

Phoenix has NO shot at the cup, they won't make it past the first round with or without doan/whitney. They probably realize that and will want to build for next year.

If we could get Doan, there really isn't a better option. There's even a possibility of re-signing him.

Doan+Whitney? Sign me up. Those are the kinds of rentals I'd be willing to pillage our already barebones farm system for. I would be thrilled if we got Whitney, ****ing ecstatic if we got Doan, and I'd probably **** my pants with joy if we got both.

No more mercenaries like Guerin and Campbell, no more crap like Wallin and Moen.

But the big question remains, who would we realistically give up for either of them? We're kind of in a pickle in the sense that we don't want to keep emptying our picks, but we don't have any expendable players that don't have NMC/NTCs and would satisfy the Coyotes. It would mean you'd have to send a Pavelski or Clowe back the other way.

Between the two, I think we have a better shot at Whitney because of his limited NTC, age, and the fact that he might still feel a nostalgic connection to the Sharks franchise

If they are still intent on selling the team, the best way to do it is to make the playoffs to drive the price. They sell off players after the deal is done. The potential new owners also might be fearful of a tanking team and may have stipulated no sell offs as well. Odds are very much against a Phoenix sell off unless the financial side is settled. Unsettled means stand pat.

Would anyone here be willing to part with D. Murray to get either Doan or Whitney as rentals?

I don't get how this is possible, but Fear the Fin tweeted earlier today that we could potentially have 12 million of cap available at the deadline. I don't get how that works?

Yes, I don't think that will be enough nor do I think the Coyotes will be sellers.

Murray, Ferriero, Goalie prospect, 1st, 3rd for Doan and Whitney

How would you line up?

Pavelski - Thornton - Doan
Whitney - Couture - Clowe
Marleau - Handzus - McGinn
Winchester - Desjardins - McCarthy

Boyle - Vlassic
Burns - Demers
Braun - Vandermeer

I doubt that would be enough to get a deal done, and I doubt even more that Phoenix will trade either of these two, let alone both to us.

You forgot Mach 9. If SSG were here, you'd be in big trouble, mister.

Banned.

Anyways I doubt either of them get traded. If they do, I doubt to us.

Prove me wrong Doug.

It is because contracts are pro rated, which means if a player is trade midseason, the team receiving that player on pays what is left on that years contract. So who ever gets traded at the deadline will only need to have 40 or so days of his contract.

I am not sure the exact formula, but a 1 mil contract would probably be more like a 20,000 dollar cap hit.

So since the sharks already have 3 mil in cap space, they could at the deadline take on roughly a 7 million dollar player with just trading a draft pick.

Totally disagree. The Yotes are GOOD. They are buyers.

I am not quite buying the Yotes being good. I know they beat us but they will most likely miss the playoffs. Plus with the financial/relocation situation to boot I really doubt they will be adding.

I agree with this, which is why I put that Whitney isn't available (yet) in the rumor.

I think there is probably less than a 5% Doan is moved regardless of where the Coyotes are in the standings - and even if Doan becomes available, I've said it many, many times, the Sharks won't want to give up what the Coyotes want (1st plus high end forward prospect or young roster forward).

If the Coyotes decide they will be relocting next year before the TDL, then that will raise the chances of Doan wanting to go elsewhere, but that's not going to happen.

Whitney, on the other hand, if they aren't going to make the playoffs may want another chance at the cup - but I think the Coyotes will stay in contention and doubt they'll be sellers.

All that said, if it's true the Sharks are interested in Whitney, he's the exact type of player, though I'd prefer a bit younger in case he wants to re-sign them, I want Wilson targeting.

I thought Doan has a NMC.. so that would limit the teams he would go to. Could be similar to Heatley where they trade for best package of approved teams.
