His shooting % was completely unsustainable, most of his goals and assists came on effort and hustle plays, and once other teams decided to pay attention to him he was pretty much shut down. I like Matty Hustle, he has a great compete level, good hockey sense, and some skill. The question is where do you slot a guy like him? He's a little small for a checking role, he's not quite skilled enough for a top six role, you could play him on an energy line and see what he can bring to the table, but that seems to be his ceiling. That's not overly exciting to me.

I'm not concerned about his size as a checking guy, just his ability. I think he would do fine.

I just want him on the team in place of Gillies. That's all.

Yep. That's where he fits. Boll - MacKenzie - Calvert. Who knows? That line may even score some goals.

I was thinking more Calvert-MacKenzie-Dorsett, with Boll and Gillies on the bench. (I'd prefer to have RRussell there, but, well, circumstances.)

I like Gillies as an injury replacement, but not as a starter. I remember thinking "Chimera 2.0, only younger" when he came in, and I was wrong - Chimera actually scored goals. He does everything else right, so it's not as though I want him gone yesterday or something, but we're kind of all-in on this offense-by-committee thing and he's a weak link there.

I don't see Dorsett falling to the fourth line. He may or may not be able to improve upon last year's stats, but I don't think it was a fluke.

I'm not all that high on Gilles. I think he takes away ice time from the kids who actually have upside. Gilles is as good as he's going to get. (LOVE to have to eat those words later this year)

So if DD doesn't fall to the 4th line who does?
RyJo? Prospal? Letestu?
I think its a numbers game and DD on the 4th makes the most sense unless RyJo goes to the A.

It all depends on if RyJo makes the team IMO

RJ-Brass-Cam
Dubi-Anisimov-Prospal
Foligno-Johansen-Dorsett
Boll-MacK-Letestu

And without Joey

RJ-Brass-Cam
Dubi-Anisimov-Prospal
Foligno-Letestu-Dorsett
Gillies-MacK-Boll

I agree.

How about this? If RyJo makes the squad...

Line 2a: Prospal - Brassard - Atkinson
Line 2b: Umberger - Dubinsky - Letestu
Line 2c: Foligno - Anisimov - Dorsett
Line 3: Calvert - Johansen - MacKenzie
Boll
Gilles

If he doesn't...
Line 2a: Prospal - Brassard - Atkinson
Line 2b: Umberger - Dubinsky - Letestu
Line 2c: Foligno - Anisimov - Dorsett
Line 4: Calvert - MacKenzie - Boll
Gilles

The wild card in these plans, IMHO, is Boone Jenner.

Ryjo will make the team. Id still like to see these lines

Umby-Brass-Cam
Ryjo/Anisimov-Ryjo/Anisimov-Prospal
Foligno-Dubinsky-Dorsett
Calvert-Mackenzie-Letestu

I feel like these lines group together players based on their strengths/assets. Except the 'first' line which just showed good chemistry last year. Second line is a good combo of size and skill, line three is just total badassery and line 4 is energy plus a little scoring touch. Id also be okay with others lines here, I just really want to see this third line. Really badly.

Johansen should make the team, if he doesn't I hate to think of his future.. as for the lines I don't know how anyone can project them.. I do think Dubinsky, Anisimov and Foligo are going to push people to play at the top of their game however.. It will be fun to see how it all rolls out.

I could deal with the offense by committee if we could acquire a goalie everyone could believe in.

If RyJo isn't getting top 6 minutes, he should really be in Springfield. There's no point in giving him 4th line minutes when he could be playing double the minutes and learning from other young players and grizzled vets in the AHL.

Giving up on Bob when he has 0 games for us is a bit early, no?

I do think it will be offense by committee, there aren't any players that stand out as individual stars but many that may want to turn the perception that Columbus is a graveyard. That said, you are correct, there must be solid goaltending or the motivation and emotion of turning the ship could be short lived.

I hesitate to say this, but there is always a chance that Mason wins....

Not at all. Giving up on Mason? That happened a few months ago.

As long as you have confidence in your #1 you are fine. I still think Masons career can be salvaged.

Yeah, it's not Bobrovsky that is the immediate concern, it's Mason.. I can say this, if Mason gets beat soft to often in his first few games he better have a good excuse… the fans will be hard on him.

IMO, this is the big issue I have with Mason remaining on the NHL roster.

The first goal he allows, whenever it is, however it is, will bring back the boo birds. People have no faith in the guy to succeed. Neither do I. I *do* think he can be a good goalie in this league, but I cannot believe that he will be able to survive the pressure and history he has here. At least not without the 'cleansing' of being waived, sent to the A and then clearing again to get back here. That humbling experience moves him from being a failure to a 'comeback' story...and we know how much fans love a good comeback.

RYJO?

FWIW, I've heard Johansen hates that. Not that he's here creeping on the boards but his nickname, the one people actually call him to his face, is JOEY.

Any specific reason why he hates it? RyJo is pretty badass.

I agree. I'm sticking with RyJo on here. Though I wouldn't ever use it while speaking to someone.

Joey conjures up too many memories of TV dimwits.
