I will be at the game but if it is a boring one I will be leaving (for the first time ever) early to get home in time for the tOSU game.

And, if you're not interested in this one, there are plenty of NHL teams playing other NHL teams tonight!

...4-1 Wild. Koivu likely returning, and he gives them a major boost on any night. He'll wind up with 2 assists, and Cal Clutterbuck will make naughty gestures at James Wisniewski...who will be in the press box.

The Wild are fighting hard for a playoff birth, I hope we beat em.... (never cared to much for our expnsion brother)...

I read Johansen is expected to be benched for the third time in a row tonight, man, make the All-star game and the reward is the pine.... It must be tough being a Blue Jacket.

Another odd fact, this is the 38th day of the year and this will only be the 5th home game of 2012.

And only 4 wins, in the last 40 days and 40 nights . . . .

A lot of references to 40 days and 40 nights in history, mostly of despair. Instead of receiving one of the 10 plagues, such as rivers with blood, frogs from the sky, flies, locusts or darkness we get Priest and Howson.

The next 4 games are the "easy" part of the month.

After that we have...

Blues
Blackhawks
Rangers
Sharks
Avs (/whew, an "easy" one)
Pens
Wings

... to close out the month

We could easily be 20+ points out of 29th with 19 games to go.

Thought I'd brighten your day - Koivu's not returning tonight.

(p.s. thanks to cbjgirl for helping me with your lines)

I can not see anyway this team can not finish 30th at this point.

I don't get it. If the season is a wash, and it clearly is, then why not get the kid maximum ice time and experience?

I think he will get plenty of playing team in the next few weeks, after the deadline.

If he is playing lazy because he is tired(becuase he is a Rookie) I would rather him rest up and learn what it takes to be an NHLer.

I think it is being blown out of proportion. Richards is not hurting is development at this point.

Also for more fun, we are in a strong position to complete the (greater than) triple crown of suck in the NHL this year.

Worst point total, including worst home record
Worst goal differential
Least amount of goals scored
Most goals against
Worst PK in the league

To hell with that crap. We're in a deep enough hole that I doubt it matters. I want a win.

With a 30 game winning streak not even being enough, I'm not sure I care anymore. I won't wish us to lose, but I'm not going to get concerned about the score.

I would like to see how we respond as a team, but honestly it's more interesting after the deadline as the survivors play for their jobs next year.

I think we are trying to follow the Seguin model to much. Bruins developed Seguin the way they did because they were a championship contending team. He got to learn from a top notch group of players, so time off probably helped him getting to watch his teammates do things right that he might have been doing wrong.

Johansen however, gets no such benefit from sitting watching his teammates. A team like Columbus should take this chance to increase Johansen's responsibilities. Play him at center, give him some pk time, play him in the final minutes of periods, these are all things we will expect of him in the coming years, so why not get him familiar with these types of situations when losses don't matter anymore. They should be using this time to teach Johansen, or at least let him go out and experience what will be expected of him. That doesn't mean I think they should go and bring all the top young guys up from Springfield, but they should be doing different things for Johansen.

I just find it difficult when this new coach says he would find it difficult to remove a player from the lineup after the last few games. I'm sorry coach, but are we watching different games? Good for your players that they are going out there and skating hard, but is he missing all the sloppy play, like the consistently horrible passing this team has had since the all-star break. I don't think working hard should be the criteria of getting a spot on the game day roster, I think Richards should be expect more than just hard work. Maybe he should expect good passing which in turn would probably put a significant halt on the amount of bad turnovers this team has committed the past few games.

Anyways, I just don't get it, you want to build a winner, but right now your expectations are only to play hard or skate hard, whatever those two things mean. Doesn't the coach think it's a little to late to start looking like you care on the ice? Play the kid, provide him with the opportunity to flourish for the future of this club. The seasons over, I think the team would be just fine without Russell or Gillies. I know some people were complementing Gillies in the game day thread the last game, but if he wasn't dumping the puck in and chasing he was turning the puck over. The guy has some of the worst hockey sense I've ever seen, I felt bad for Carter and Prospal all game because he kept screwing up the rush every time he didn't dump the puck in. Also Boll has been especially awful the past few games. He is giving up the puck with ease every time he touches it. I know he's know top 6 guy, but I don't remember him being so terrible with the puck like he has been the past few games.

Damn skippy. We suck so bad a win can't hurt us. (That sentence hurts my brain) Plus, unless I'm mistaken, we still don't have a back-to-back win this season. I would like to see that.

Don't get me wrong, I want them to play extremely well... I just want them to lose.

This "getting their act together in February" stuff is annoying. They need to tank properly, draft an all-star & build from there. I can wait another year.

I didn't look it up, but I think we don't have back to back regulation wins. I do think we can equal the season long winning streak tonight.
