It was only 1 game. He'll play in the must-win game 3

So Pateryn turned down the Habs offer, for now, to finish his semester. Though, from what he's saying, he doesn't seem to say no to a Habs contract in due time. Honestly, not a bad idea. I hope he joins and signs. I think he'll do good in the AHL. But there's just no certainty that this guy is an NHL'er. So he's there, might as well finish school, sign a contract after and come to camp and start from there.

Quote:
“I’m just going to graduate, figure out my contract deals sometime soon,” said Pateryn. “School’s first. ... I’ll be good. Show up to camp, have a good summer and everything will take care of itself.”

Probably has something to do with the Med Schools.

As I understand it the Med School will accept him and defer the start date til after his hockey career.

However, and this is me speculating, they probably need him to finish his first degree and graduate before they can actually give him the acceptance officially. A degree is probably the prerequisite to the official acceptance and he could lose things if he drops out of school to play 5-6 games with the dogs.

Sounds like he's got his priorities in order and will be a great addition to the Bulldogs backend when he signs.

If Pateryn his smart he goes the ufa route. he's behind Tinordi, Beaulieu, Ellis + Subban/Emelin/Weber/Diaz in the depth chart. His chance of reaching nhl faster are better if he sign elsewhere

Is there a compensation pick if he doesn't sign?

Nope, that's only for first round picks.

Thing is Pateryn is not on a fast route NHL. A guy like him has clearly 2 years in the AHL so we never know in year 3 who will still be here. I obviously don't believe we'll see both Weber and Diaz around here for too long. Yet, Pateryn brings that element of toughness you can't have too much of. And frankly, not that I don't think he's good, but I think that his wisest decision is to finish school at this point.

And Bennett not going anywhere 'cause....he loves it too much over there.....Mind you, he was not going to be asked to join the Habs. But I'm expecting him to do so after his junior year.

There may be exceptions to this, but I believe most American med schools have a maximum number of years over which a student can defer an acceptance. I've heard of 2 years for some schools, not sure if that's a general rule, or if they make exceptions, etc.

Do you have a link? From what I know the latest is that Boston College is the top front runner for his services but nothing is official at all.

Holland was taken off Shinnimin's line. He has no points while Shinnimin has 2 goals.... not good.

I haven't seen that anywhere officially but I know BC was one of the teams he was rumored to commit to. Notre Dame was one of the other teams I heard was in the mix.
