Selanne is the second player to score over 50 points as a 41+ year old
Selanne is the first player to score over 50 points at his age since Gordie Howe. It´s amazing how he just keeps going.
41+ scoring:
Gordie Howe 76gp 71pts 69-70
Gordie Howe 63gp 52pts 70-71
Teemu Selanne 52gp 50pts 11-12
Mark Recchi 81gp 48pts 10-11
Johnny Bucyk 49gp 43pts 76-77
Ducks scoring this season:
Selanne 50pts +5
Perry 40pts -8
Getzlaf 36pts -15
Ryan 32pts -5
Koivu 27pts +9
Pretty impressive.

he's gotta come back next year, I can't imagine how different our team would be with Yakupov as our first line LW, and Bobby Ryan on the third line.
Hope he makes it to 80 again... one more year, Teemu!

Awesome job Teemu.
If Nick Lidstrom can get 23 points going down the back half, he'll clear 50 pts this season as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if he stays for another year at least.

What a beast. If you took his insane rookie season and projected a career arc for him, I doubt you would have even projected this many points for him at this age.

You won't need to. Yakupov is going to Columbus.

we could finish bottom 3 and win draft lottery and number 1 pick, no?
regardless, we're likely going to have one new player ready to play next year from the 2012 draft, first round.
hoping we get a really good player, and that motivates Teemu to play one more season.

I honestly think this is it for the guy who was my first favorite #8. After all, he's had knee surgeries twice now, and the second one with a much shorter recovery time (and I have no doubt it was the lockout season that gave him the recovery time to keep going as long as he has). He rocks.

He has a legitimate chance at clipping Howe's 71 points, Teemu's only 21 behind.

If Howe didn't go to the WHA, I bet he would have gotten at least 50+ points for most of the 1970's, too.
heck. He had 41 points in the NHL in 1980 when he was 52 years old.

If he gets PPG that's just sick. Go Teemu!

Shouldn't he qualify as 41+ last season
Turns 42 soon.

Selanne winning the Cup in 2007 actually brought a tear to my eye, he comes off as such a good nice spirited guy. You can't but help like the guy.
At his age, the wheels could fall off any second and it must be really tough to decide to play or not for another year. I believe he has at least 1 more quality year left in him. He might even be able to hold out for the 2014 Olympics, but its a long shot.

I think if you drafted someone promising to go on his line he could well stay for another year or two to help them blend in and adjust to NHL life, kind've like a project of his if you will. I really think he could get 82 points. Which would be epic.

Nope.
Lidstrom April 28th 1970
Selanne July 3rd 1970
Here´s the list for 40+ year olds:
1.Howe 76gp 103pts*
2.Bucyk 77gp 83pts*
3.Selanne 73gp 80pts*
...
7.Lidstrom 82gp 62pts
*Howe, Bucyk and Selanne are the only players in NHL history to post a PPG season after turning 40.
edit. They are also the only players to score 30 goals after turning 40.
