I don't think most of his goals were really deflections, but recently some have been. I'd say he's still a 20 goal scorer right now without the deflections, but I don't remember all of them for sure.
Hey why does the NHL still credit a goal scorer with deflections? You would think with all the rule changes they wouldn't count them anymore.
because they scored? i see what you are saying with clarky's goal on tuesday, it was a lucky goal, but many deflections are skilled, and if not you get rewarded for paying the price. Plus is would be too hard to differentiate between the two, easiest to just give it to the last guy who touched it.

I know this is the rule and all, but I think that deflection the other night wasn't even planned or seen by Clarky, I really feel goals like that should be credited to the shooter, Sykora in that particular situation, but I see it might be to hard to tell if was planned or not, and just give it to the last player that touches it.
(I thought that was a great shot by Sykora)
This is a bit of a fluke year, no question, but judging from his career shooting %, if he keeps getting these opportunities and keeps shooting the puck at this kind of rate, he could settle in as a very solid 20-24 goal scorer, which is great considering everything else be brings to the table.
If he consistently brings 20 goals and 10 fights every season, he's easily worth his price.
I want to see how well he does in the playoffs. Everytime we've been there it seems as though Clarkson is lost.(then again so does everyone) I want to see him change that this year.

As somebody that has been both a skater and a goalie... the last guy who deflects it absolutely deserves the goal. Most of the time the goalie would stop the initial shot, but the guy that tipped it on net (which is really really hard to do and 9 times out of 10 it's on purpose and not by accident) and changed the landing spot of the puck is the sole reason that the goal counts.

I agree its a hard thing to do (deflecting a shot), and if a player purposely deflects a puck into the net he deserves the goal, like you said 9 times out of 10 it's on purpose. I was really just talking about the 1 time out of 10 (like Sykora's goal against the rags) where the shooter purposely aims at a player (who's not even looking at the shooter) and the puck hits the player and goes in. Sykora said he shot the puck and tried to bank it off Clarky's butt, but hit his leg instead. Clarky had no idea the puck was coming.

And I think this is true of the goal we were discussing. Lundqvist was in position for Sykora's shot, it's the deflection that threw him.
Clarkson in his career is gonna sit at 15-25 goals. It all depends on his linemates, and his role. Remember when we were crucifying DB for having him on the PP?

He's gotten much better at his role on the PP, and that corresponds to a bump in its effectiveness.

Well he was in the right place at the right time, and I bet Hank was a little distracted by Clarkson coming straight at him and not even thinking about turning for the pass. I'm sure Syky is happy with the assist.

All in all it was a real good play by Clarky to bust in the zone, leave a drop pass to Sykora, and then a nice shot by Sykora. Clarky wouldve been right there for a rebound if it didnt go in the net.
I'm just happy the puck went in.
