I agree its a hard thing to do (deflecting a shot), and if a player purposely deflects a puck into the net he deserves the goal, like you said 9 times out of 10 it's on purpose. I was really just talking about the 1 time out of 10 (like Sykora's goal against the rags) where the shooter purposely aims at a player (who's not even looking at the shooter) and the puck hits the player and goes in. Sykora said he shot the puck and tried to bank it off Clarky's butt, but hit his leg instead. Clarky had no idea the puck was coming.
Fayne shot that puck that wasn't even on goal until Gustavsson put it in his own net. Weird stuff like that happens sometimes, but it all evens out.
In five or six years of beer league hockey I only ever scored a couple deflection goals, they're hard.
