I just did an 8 team auction draft. My first ever auction draft and it was fun but I don't care much for my team. I'm not very high on my outfielders. $260 was our budget.
C - JP Arencibia - $14
1B - Paul Konerko - $6
2B - Ian Kinsler - $18
SS - Starlin Castro - $18
3B - Evan Longoria - $26
LF - Alex Gordon - 5
CF - Andrew McCutchen - $21
RF - Ichrio Suzuki - $12
Util - Kevin Youkilis - $7
Util - Jay Bruce - $4
SP - Stephen Strasburg - $24
SP - Jered Weaver - $12
SP - Cole Hamels - $12
RP - Mariano Rivera - $1
I have a waiver claim to pick up SP Derek Holland for Matt Joyce.
Also Chris Carpenter is available and I'm tempted to pick him up as well.
Overpaid for JP but I do like the value of a lot of others. Rivera for one dollar is laughable. Hamels and Gallardo was good value and I think you have a solid infield. But I'm used to seeing 10 man leagues, not 8 so its hard for me to judge.
Carpenter is on the dl to start the year I believe, fyi. Thought I should let you know

Yeah Papelbon went for 25 and Axford and Velverde went for 20 each. Huge steal with Rivera. We have a DL spot so I thought it was worthwhile to pick Carpenter up for now.
This is my first year following baseball so my knowledge is very limited. I joined 2 pools and would be extremely grateful if you guys critiqued both of them. This is the 1st:
19 team league, 5x5. 17th Overall pick.
* This is League #1 of a 4-5 league system in which the top-5 teams move up and bottom-5 move down at the end of each year. It took me 4 years to move from League #4 to League #1.

BN: R.Wolf (19), B.Chen (25)
Trade was:
To Me = S.Marcum, A.Sanchez, S.Schumaker
To Him = M.Thornton, R.Roberts, K.Lohse
I like my infield, rotation and relievers. My outfield could clearly use a stud at the top to push everyone down a peg and Gutierrez to the bench (I'd settle for another 'Kubel' though).
If it wasn't for Luebke deciding he forgot how to get Andre Ethier out, my fantasy team would be incredible right now.
No kidding. My ERA is sitting at a 7.9 right now with Gallardo and Luebke stinking up the joint (although Luebke did get charged with a few earned runs off of obvious errors).
I'm in a 8 teams League and since my knowledge of baseball is limited (first time ever I join a fantasy baseball league) any advice is welcome. There are plenty of good free agents left so I have the chance to fix up positions if needed.

EDIT: Just dropped Trumbo and got Cespedes who was available
God damn. Freese and Molina and Cespedes all look like smart pick ups. I tried to pick up both Bartolo Colon and Jake Westbrook to help fill holes in my staff, but I was outbid, so I'm stuck starting Fister, Teheran, and Stauffer, as well as Addison Reed, whom I hope while soon be the closer in South Side Chicago. He was in contention for it, and has gone 2.2 innings without a hit/walk/earned run in three appearances, with a couple of strike outs.a

You should try and pick up Henderson Alvarez while you can. He's got pin-point control, won't K alot of guys, but won't walk any either. 1ER against the red sox yesterday and was dominant throughout.

Already picked up, but I thought of him. I have bids in on Jason Hammel and Barry Zito. We shall see

Zito really? I don't think he's worth the hype after his last start. I'm readily willing to eat crow on that, but I don't think he's going to all of a sudden pull a great season out of you know where.
thoughts on my team? first time i've ever played fantasy baseball
I think my starting pitching is absolutely stacked but the rest pretty much sucks,is that a fair assessment?

I'd probably try and move either Kennedy or Shields as part of a deal for a big bat. Even better if you can get a sucker to take Beckett off your hands instead.

Oh, I'm not sure he will either, which is why I might cancel the bid if his next start goes poorly. But Zito has always had the stuff.
