So we have the fastest group of forwards in the league? Obviously with Komisarek, Schenn, Phaneuf, Franson, our defense is lacking..

Maybe if Armdog wasn't in the lineup

Leaf board really needs to get past this idea that different opinions is trolling. Seriously! Comes off like a complex.

Okay, this discussion is relative to other Leaf teams and your poll is asking if the Leafs are the fastest team in the league. Trolling or lack of basic comprehension skills?

Gardiner will be a more defensively responsible karlsson.
I guarantee in a couple years - who is the better dman will be debated ad naseum.

One statement isn't a discussion. Attributing it to the whole fan base and creating a poll about it is trolling.

Gathering opinion is not trolling. I find you funny.

Gardiner should be hands down. The hype is huge on him.

On the main board, it's hard to maintain mature and sensible discussion on most things but particularly when teams like the Leafs and Canucks are involved, it always ends in a pissing contest. And in complete fairness, there are Leafs fans on this forum that do their part in contributing to the gong show that ensues when any Leafs discussion finds its way onto the main board.

I don't know why people think Phanouf is slow. When you compare him to our forwards, sure, but his speed is average to just above average. His mobility is definitely a concern, though, and I wish he'd replace those shoulder pads.

Komisarek, Schenn, and Franson are on the slow side. I'd like to see what the latter two do to address this in the off-season.

Liles and Gardiner are fast, Phanouf and Gunnarson are on the higher end of average. The rest are on the wrong side of the bell curve. If Schenn's gets his speed up to Phanouf's level, we're good going forward. Franson and Komisarek could hopefully get moved in the off-season.

Phaneuf looks like a robot to me. Those shoulder pads are funny.

well for me, it's hard not to think of him as slow when you constantly see forwards on the fore check come from behind and catch him. maybe he's above average but all the forwards the Leafs play are above above average?

he's not Hal Gill, but he's not above average either

I'll agree when the discussion somehow doesn't turn into another Kessel vs. Seguin thread.

The young leafs of the late '80s was also lightning fast with guys like Courtnall, Leeman, Clark, Olcyk, Osborne, Damphousse, Marois, Fergus up front and Iafrate and Gill on the backend.

Quinn's late '90s group was damn fast too, both with the forwards up front Sundin, Thomas, Berezin, Sullivan, Johnson, Modin, McCauley, Valk, Warriner but most especially on the backend with Berard, Kaberle, Markov, Yushky, and Cote.

Liles and Gardiner skate as well as any dmen in the league, while Gunnar and Phaneuf are both very mobile as well.

don't want to nitpick...

Clark & Fergus weren't known for speed. Leeman either really. Courtnall and Iafrate FOR SURE

same could be the same for Yushky.

Our forward group is extremely quick. however, our defence, aside from Gardiner, Gunnarson is wayyy too slow.. every time i see schenn, komi out there, they are turtles. Sometimes phaneuf is fast ,sometimes he's dead slow, can't really state which

true, those were the slower names I mentioned. Though to be fair, the league wasn't nearly as fast back then, so there were way more slugs on the other teams. A guy like Yushky was far more mobile than most defensive dmen back then, for example.

and I should have probably mentioned the Ihnaceks and the Frycer, too.

I agree the league was a lot slower. imagine Phil Espo playing today?
