Habs to pull a ''New Jersey'' ? Where will they finish? Poll

Since the 1st time since we drafted our franchise player Carey Price, the habs have a great opportunity to finish at the bottom of the league and pick up a lotto pick.

Will the team squander this opportunity and start winning, to end up as NJ did last year?

Will the Hockey Gods pull through and give us a top 5 pick?

Or are we on the verge of repeating the same old misfortune of squeaking through and getting eliminated in the early rounds?

I guess it really depends on Gauthier's stubborness, or Molson's denial of rebuilding. We'll find out by february 27, 3pm

yep- and even then who knows-
certain players play better without any pressure
im starting to see that now with all the writeups and talk about accepting the season is done as for making the playoffs some of the pressure is being reduced

This is very true.

Sadly, an injury to Cole or Price, could be the nail on the coffen.

I wish it didn't have to be that way...

lol

Oh for ****'s sake. Now this is just getting sad.

I thought for sure that after slipping to the bottom of the East, people would take off the rose colored glasses, but it seems there's still people clinging to a completely ridiculous hope that we can make the playoffs. It ain't happening guys.

We have 51 points. There are 28 games remaining. Finishing at 93 would require 21 wins. And we'd probably miss the playoffs anyway, 95 might be a better estimate. So you think this team can win 3/4 of its games for the rest of the season? Or put it this way: you think that in 28 games, we will manage to only lose 7? Magically this team which at its best has been maintaining a .500 rythm will go to .750?

Every game we lost in the past few days was the "most important game", yet two little wins is enough to get all excited about? As if we weren't gonna win again for the rest of the season?

The devils of last year didn't make the playoffs even though they went on a tear. We eliminated them, remember?

Come on guys, this is just sad. The coffin has been nailed a long time ago. You're just hurting yourselve for no reason. The longer you cling to extremely unlikely playoffs hopes, the more disappointed you will be with every loss. Get over it, no playoffs this year.

I swear people will still be crying when we're officially eliminated.

I have this awful feeling there is a small soft "mr hockey" style forward prospect from minnesota just waiting for our pick to slip out of the top 5.

Party pooper!

You are probably right though. I don't see us winning 20/21 games in the next 28, even if Markov comes back tomorrow.

But I understand the people that still believe. You never know. A team on a roll is hard to stop sometimes like the Bruins in November who got 25 out of 26 points... but that's kinda rare.

A two games winning streak is not enough to get me excited. If we win 13 of the next 15.. then..

Habs win and the fan base naturally assumes the team will win every game for the rest of the season.

The team is obviously putting out the effort and trying to win. Where that puts it will be interesting but believe me when I say that every win the team gets from here on in hurts it in the long run.

Team won't get a MAF freebie and a loose effort by the opposition every night so I fully expect them to come back to wherever they were. I would say "back to earth" but really the team has never left the ground.

I have my opinion and it's this; the Montreal Canadiens will not make the playoffs.

With that said, I don't think they'll be a lottery team. I'll be surprised if they pick in the top 5 and am guessing they'll land in the 8th-10th pick.

Habs will end up with the 7-8th overall pick. They are a lot better team to pick 2nd or 3rd. Unless Gauthier sells hard at the deadline.

We better land a top five pick, if we finish 8th and draft between 18th and 20th I be pissed off, there is NO chance that without Markov and Gionta that this team has any chance of beating New York or Boston in the first round.

TANK!!!

No way the team makes the playoffs but being good enough to lose the chance at a top 5 pic worries me.

We can get away with Galchenyuk if we got a #4-5 pick, Forsberg at #3, Grigorenko at #2. But, if we pull a NJ, we'd likely get Girgensons.

The team should trade the UFA and anyone it does not plan to use for 2012-13. Also, the Habs should play the young players as much as they can in preparation for 2012-13.

That being said, you can't just lose on purpose. If the team gets hot, then so be it. You don't learn anything by building a losing mentality.

We're not bad enough to get a lottery pick and we're not going to make the playoffs, we'll likely draft around 8-10th. Guys like Gorges, Cole, Price, Subban etc have too much pride to just roll over and die, they will battle every game until the end of the year which is why we won't finish bottom 5.
