I've sat in 208 for several years now, with my wife and two young children. That section is very welcoming to opposing team fans as long as they act appropriately. I even rember a game when we were playing Montreal and a husband and wife from Mpnyreal were sitting in front of me, very pleasant and so happy to be there, were getting abused by a group of intoxicated yoing devils fans. We tried to speak with this group several times with no result so we alerted security and had the devils fans removed. The Montreal fans couldn't believe we stuck up for them and actually said that would have never have happened in Philly or NY.
I often read HFboards to keep up with the Devils and their fans opinions but rarely do I ever post. But I feel that I have to set the record straight because I cannot believe the stuff I am reading about the Diablos.
I have season tickets in both Section(s) 208 and 19 since the new building opened and had been sitting in 217/218 prior at CAA/Brendan Byrne. I have witnessed the Devils' fan section wars over the years and I thought these issues were left at CAA like Jimmy Hoffa being buried in the end zone of Giants Stadium.
First and foremost, as a member of Section 208 and speak for most in our section, we became a huge advocate for the Diablos and admired their efforts. Most of the people in our section reached out to them on other websites and social media commending them on their efforts because we see a young fan base start to generate their own organization without the help of 208/233. This is a great dream realized because the Diablos are a true "first generation" Devils fans group that are mostly born after the Devils moved to New Jersey in 1982.
To set the record straight: no one in Section 208 has ever wanted to see the 122 Diablos split apart or not have any kind of fun at the games. The only minor issues we may have is that some of the original chants, such as the PK "KILL KILL KILL", were originated from Section 217/218 and are done incorrectly (If anyone wants to know how this chant came about, I'll post it later). These chants have some sort of meaning behind it because of how it originated and it is tough to see it be misrepresented. However, this is not to discourage 122 not to do the chants, but we need to be on the same page. We'd be happy to reach out to 122.
As for the Devils organization involvement of putting the section together, kudos to 122 in getting it done. I had been trying for years to get the Devils attention on certain issues, but never gotten anywhere. However, I like that as a section, we are independent and more original.
I've been blessed to have great friends in Section 208/19 and win or lose, I go to the games because of the relationships I have built with Devils fans from all walks of life. I'm not one to put down a group of 122 Diablos because they are trying and this stuff takes time. I know because I have been there before. I don't get to go to that many Devils games anymore because I am usually travelling for business (even this Saturday) and miss being at the games. But do me a favor and reach out to these fine fans. We do not need another "high school like" section war like we did back ten years ago. Moreover, the 122 Diablos deserve every chance to succeed in their mission and a big part of the Devils Army.

Thanks for the honest feedback. As far as the chants they are doing incorrectly, I'm sure if you shared with them, it'd be appreciated by them, and they would adjust. If you would like - or if you have someone who would speak for folks in your sections, I'd be happy to get you in touch with the diablos captains to coordinate. They've expressed interest in working with other sections on cheers when I have spoken with them.
Our goal would be to have all sections together - cheering in unison...but it has to start somewhere. For the folks in the sections who feel slighted, if organized and also in unison, I'd love to have you in the office...to talk about chants you can lead and even chants you can partner with the diablos on. All it takes is connecting the dots and I'm happy to facilitate that if it means a better overall game experience for everyone.
If we get great participation, we'll be happy to send NJ and his drum and other assets over to a number of different sections each game. No disrespect was/is meant by the featuring of the diablos. We have been working with them, based on their organization and unity in getting chants going thoughout games...something our arena desperately needed/still needs.
Please don't hesitate to holler directly if you are in a large unified section that collectively all wants to be more involved.
If the question is "Why does the organization give more "attention" to 122 as opposed to 208?". I think the answer would be obvious, 122 is a more visable/expensive seat.
Dudes complaining about the diablos would be a head scratcher, except that I get told to sit down every game I go to.
122 is actually the lowest price season ticket in the arena - $22 per seat. Back rows of the 100 level section. So no, revenue per seat is not a motivation in working with them...just all the other reasons already discussed...

What? $22 a ticket? For 100 level? I guess the guy in 208 has a case.

I think this is the dumbest chant in the entire building (unless you count "Rangers Suck" as a chant), and the "vuvuzela wrinkle" later added to it now makes it both dumb, and completely obnoxious to thousands of people on a nightly basis.

Good. And I hope you find March Madness chants equally as annoying.
The Devils can't build a united fan base when you have this type of negativity over chanting. Unless you can give me the official Devils' Cliffs Notes on how to behave and chant, I'll continue to bring down the IQs of every fan in the arena with our both "dumb and obnoxious" chants.
I'll allow you all to discuss which chants you like/don't like...after all, as fans, it's your building. To be constructive with one another, instead of saying I hate or I love a particular cheer, maye explain why you love/hate it. Better to share ideas than to cut each other down.
Personally, I like the chant for this reason - it's unified in that section, you can hear it throughout the building, and I have heard our players comment that they can hear it loudly during the pk...which is an important part of the game for our players to feel our support.
For those who don't like it, what chant would you want to hear during the pk? Or would you rather it be silent?
I love the interaction of the fans at specific times in the game....and I think that helps build the beginnings of a real home ice advantage.

I think it's a bit ironic you'd want that from someone else, considering how you told the rest of us that we are doing your chants wrong.

I've put some honest thought into NOT renewing my season tickets because of mentality like that. I've decided to merely explore the options of moving seats, because I love going to games. But people who have issues with the stupidest stuff inside the arena really bother me... Why does it matter who chants what and when?

Couldn't agree more. I rather hear loud obnoxious chants on the PK than silence of nervous Devils fans sitting on their hands.
This is how the "KILL KILL KILL" chant was originated.
In the old building, there were times we chanted "De-fense, KLEE-fence, or Greene-fence" during the PK. Of course, some fans objected to it being "stupid" and we stopped. (sounds familiar?)
Then one day, a season ticket holder in our section asked us why we stopped because he loved the fact we were loud at all times. His name was Grizzly Adams AKA "Joe the Mailman" and a big John Madden fan. He encouraged us to be loud on the PK and started by himself chanting "KILL KILL KILL" non-stop and it was pretty angry sounding. But after a few successful PKs, we started doing it. Now, it has carried into the Prudential Center.
On a side note, we have not seen or heard from Joe or Grizzly Adams since the last game at CAA. But in his honor, we still continue to do it and do it proudly. He is the man that deserves all the credit for starting this chant. Hope to meet up with him again one day.

When a chant is done wrong, it throws off the timing. Timing and unity is everything if you want the building to be loud. Like I said, it is a minor issue but I was clarifying that 208 has never tried to put down 122.

I too like the "Kill" chant on the pk, it's fun to yell and unique to Devils fans.
In fact it was being chanted in Long Island last week while the Devils were killing a penalty.
I wish more people would chant louder at the games. One of the games I went to earlier this season, you could literally hear everything going on on the ice from the 100-level seats. It's really uncomfortable when it's like that. All this negativity about people doing chants wrong is stupid, and it ruins the experience for a lot of people.

That is freakin awesome. It sounded like another home game out there. Good job!
As a parent, one of the great things is being able to take my kids to the Devils games and not fear for thier lives, or have to constantly shield them from drunken hooligans (well, at least most of the time). Devils fans are representative of New Jersey, just a giant cross section of demographics. MSG or Comcastland are representative of corporations, city dwellers and outer borough nighmare people, and that' s just how it is. Deal with it.
Is there any way to do away with the 'swallows' part of the 'Rangers suck' chant? It seems to have become much louder as the season has progessed.
It's wrong on so many levels....
I've brought alot of people to their first game this season and can't explain how appalled some parents (moms) were.
From a Devils marketing perspective girls youth hockey is becoming huge. You've had at least three Mites on Ice for girls' teams. That's 100+ tickets sold each time to eight to ten year old year old girls, their friends, and their parents (again, usually moms) many of whom are in the arena the first time.
I can't possibly imagine explaining that chant to a young girl, and it's not like it's lost in the noise. The whistling lead-in and the strength of the 'Rangers suck' part leaves a parent nowhere to hide from the 'swallows' part.
For a first class organization - top to bottom, team to building, and presumably the fans - it is really just so...classless.
I don't get why kill is stupid either, it's simple and gets to the point of the situation. To me the simple, to the point chants are usually the best. And people being petty about what other people should chant is one of the main reasons the building is usually a morgue, even in 15000 plus games.
The sucks, swallows chant I could see making a thing about though. There are real family issues with that, but most of the whining is just that.
