I have to wonder if it's really concussion symptoms keeping so many players out of the game.

These players take a few days off for precautionary measures, and then get back on the ice and don't feel well. I can't imagine any professional athlete is going to feel like themselves after taking several days off not working out. Hell, I feel like poo when I take a few days off and then try getting back in my routine - and I don't workout anywhere near as hard as professional athletes.

Also have to wonder how depression makes things even worse.

Feel better soon, Backis.

2/9/12 will go down as the day that sacs were grabbed.

3 to 1 as OV, Semin, and Wideman lead the team in sac grabs.

Look for Fehr to be a minus. He was awaken from his sleep at 7:15 this morning by a local radio host on DC101. Woke up his roommate who answered first. Fehr eventually hung up.

Glad MG is progressing nicely, but Backstrom news is kind of troubling imo... even if he is concussion symptoms free for the playoffs, is he gonna be in the game shape? Laying on the couch isnt really a good seasoning for the grueling nasty game the playoffs are known for...

Short term goal: get the 2 points now, the playoffs are not guaranteed yet, even thou we are in the SE.

You already know the answer to that question. Laying on the couch is how he prepared for last season.

Well, its rough watching him right now. It looks like it takes a lot of effort for him to even skate. Age is catching up to him.

You may be onto something.

You go and get surgery for example, the days of "bed rest" for 2 weeks is a thing of the past. They try and get your ass out of bed the next day. Walking laps around the ward before you know it. Most everything medically related, they want you up and and about. It seems there has been a big change over the decades.

Yet it seems concussions, has taken the opposite approach. Many have speculated concussions were common in the past, but we so kindly referred to it as getting ones bell run. Undiagnosed, bell rung, minor concussion, major, it sure seems to me that players largely (somehow) played through them.

So what has changed... are concussions much more severe now, nausea dizziness, no way one could play through it? Or are players being halted from playing through it, inadvertently lengthening recovery time, by being "cautious"?

Based on the extended periods of time players are out for now, what doctors are doing doesn't seem to be working to me, yes an internet doctor. They seem to be recommending doing nothing, which is sure making for long ass recoveries. You dont have to jump back into hockey, but couch rest, if its not working, its not working.

I wonder if they undergo mental therapy like other patients with brain trauma. Maybe it shouldn't be so much of testing them from time to time to see if they have recovered, but getting them to try and work their way back to previous mental capabilities.

I still find it comical that Winnipeg fans were glossing over the trade.

The Jets grabbed the services of an NHL player for one season in exchange for a player that is a minus 5 over his past 6 games, in the ECHL, the very deep minors. The 4th round pick was basically meaningless. Fehr has clearly been playing injured this season, but, he fills an NHL roster spot - which is more that Washington got in return.

Get used to it.

If there was ever a player I wanted off this team so badly, it was Fehr(and Fleischmann). He provided nothing as a 3rd liner and doesn't have the skill set to be top 6.

Potential money + contract spot off the roster was plenty good for us.

He's doomed to have an injury filled career.

Washington got over $2M in cap space (used on Joel Ward) and two futures.

So no, it's not more than Washington got in return.

Another playoff game tonight apparently:

Stephen Whyno
Knuble played with pins in hand during last year's playoffs. Hunter on tonight: "It's a battle. … It's a playoff game." #Caps
