I am sure you have noticed how players are playing longer these days. I am sure it has to do with training and the shape players keep themselves in. Remember, Clark Gillies was a big smoker. There was not much emphasis placed on offseason conditioning back then. Now, players start skating months before camp and work out year round. Thirty years ago, a player was already on the downswing of his career by 30, 31. Now, players are still considered in their prime at that age. Back then, it was rare for players to play into their mid-30s. How many players do we have in their mid-30s right now? Streit, Pandolfo, Rolston, Mottau, Eaton, Nabokov...did I miss anyone? (I am not suggesting that each of the players listed above are in their prime...I am only saying that it is very common for players to play into their mid-30s or later.)

He's played almost 700 NHL games is is turning 28 in the spring. So you mean we would actually be getting a veteran with 5+ quality years left in the tank? GOD NO!!!(sarcastic). This team needs to add vets who can play. Having Pando, Rolston, Reasoners, etc, just to have some older players is a waste of time. Nash would be perfect for this team. And as far as declining......

2002-03 18 CBJ NHL 74 17 22 39
2003-04 19 CBJ NHL 80 41 16 57
2005-06 21 CBJ NHL 54 31 23 54
2006-07 22 CBJ NHL 75 27 30 57
2007-08 23 CBJ NHL 80 38 31 69
2008-09 24 CBJ NHL 78 40 39 79
2009-10 25 CBJ NHL 76 33 34 67
2010-11 26 CBJ NHL 75 32 34 66........ that doesn't seem like a 4 year decline in 69, 79, 67, 66. Three of those 4 years are within 3 points of each other and the 4th is just a better year then his average. Also, durring that 4 year decline he has had the 4 best years of his career. Putting up 30+ goals and 65+ points every year doesn't scream decline to me.

I would only go 1st and Nino and MAYBE Ness

Just think, if everything pans out right Nino will be Nash 2.0, but that is a maybe so we add in the pick for them to build a blueline. Ness would be a sweetener but I wouldn't initially toss him in.

Edit: Plus were taking a big contract off the books...

You aren't counting this year, his production is way off. He has six years left on his contract if he is putting 45 points per season in years four, five and six we are totally screwed due to cap hit and all the kids we traded are entering the best part of their careers.
