Parise to the Wild, will it happen?

Reading Puck Daddy over the past few months it seems that Wyshynski thinks its only a matter of time before Parise is off to Minny in the summer. I know Zach's from Minnesota but that seems like the only reason people think he'll go there. I just don't see it happening because realistically, the Wild aren't exactly a free agent hot spot.

Do you think Parise to the Wild is a strong possibility?

Why? They don't look strong for the future. He wants to win, that's most important to him. Money too, but he wants to win. He's lived in NJ for the past six years, he likes it there and they're not useless. They're going places. Plus, he's the captain. I'd say NJ has a better chance than MIN does.

Doubt it. I see Ken Holland making a big push to acquire him if he makes it to FA.

If winning a Cup is one of Parise's priorities, then I don't see Minnesota being on top of his list of teams to go to.

Granlund, Coyle, Zucker, Hackett, Brodin, Phillips, Bulmer, Gustafsson, Scandella, Spurgeon, Lucia, Larsson, Prosser and Falk... don't look good for the future. Not to mention, Setoguchi, Koivu, Clutterbuck and Heatley.

So in that prospects list you have...
Top 3 in Finland' Elite League
Team USA WJC Top line forward
Team USA WJC Captain and NCAA freshman all-american last season
Record for best goaltender shutout debut and AHL all-star
WJC Gold Medal Champion and Eliteserien Champ last season
Top 10 in QMJHL in points and Memorial Cup winner from last season.
A WHL player that almost made the NHL squad this year and Burrows-mold type of player.
WJC Gold Meal Champion goaltender and #1 Starter for his eliteserien team.
NHL/AHL ready defenseman
Offensive defenseman in the NHL already with speed to burn.
WJC Gold Medal Championship team captain.

Should I go on? the future looks good for minnesota once everyone comes in a they can put it together, I can see Parise wanting to be a part of that and help lead the youth movement.

Pretty much every team has a depth list like that though.

Setoguchi, Heatley and Clutterbuck aren't the type of forwards that entice a player to sign with a team.

Really? So you have every team has one of the top prospects in the World? Some of the top forwards in the college ranks? One of the best centers in the CHL? One of the best goaltenders in the AHL?

I'd love to have him here but I don't think he'll sign with us.

It's funny. HFBoards is soo quick to give us every Minnesotan in the NHL "just because he's from the area", yet when it comes to Parise possibly signing here, everyone jumps to say that it's going to take more than him being from Minnesota to sign here.

Everyone thinks their prospect pool is amazing. NJ's isn't either. They have some good defensive prospects, and even that is kind of a stretch. I'm a realist. I think he'd like to maybe go to a place like, oh I don't know, Detroit. They're the class of the league every year, and he gets to play with Datsyuk or Zetts and they always churn out prospects. If it's not NJ, it'll be Detroit.

"so and so athlete going to play for their hometown" is one of the most overblown things in sports. rarely ever happens, besides players in the twilight of their careers

We're critical of our prospect system because we had a good system before but this group feels a bit different and they aren't getting rushed. We have a top 5 prospect system and a lot of the guys are ready now, not five years.

Parise is probably not interested in any of that. Not to discredit the value of a deep farm, but NHL players look at the other NHL players where they'll sign, not guys who have not made the NHL and, in all likelihood, will not be their teammates for long if at all.

Can you tell me what Parise likes to eat for breakfast, and what type of shampoo he uses too?

I know if I was an NHL player with the option to go to any team in the league, I'd look at a teams prospects before I signed somewhere. Everyone says he wants to go somewhere with a good future, well, newsflash, the prospects are the future.

Not every but around 20 or so can make comparable lists. Leafs, Kings, Stars, Caps, Panthers, Rangers, Islanders, Predators, Blues, Sabres, Oilers, Bruins, Avs, Canucks, Lightning just to name a few.
