Ansar Khan: Jimmy Howard hopes to face shots on Saturday; Jan Mursak gets an opportunity
Quote:
DETROIT -- Update from the Detroit Red Wings' morning skate Friday:

Goaltender Jimmy Howard (broken right index finger) skated before practice but still hasn't faced any shots. He is hoping to do that before and after Saturday's practice.

"It's a big test,'' Howard said.

His main concern is minimizing the vibration from the puck hitting his stick.

"We've done a good job of covering (his finger) with lots of extra protection,'' Howard said. "Hopefully, tomorrow, I can take another step in the right direction.''

Justin Abdelkader moves from fourth-line center to third line wing, replacing Danny Cleary, who's out three games after having his knee drained and receiving a cortisone shot. Emmerton moves from wing to center, his natural position, on the fourth line.

Commodore is a healthy scratch for the second game in a row.

19th straight home win on the line. Ducks games are usually fun to watch. Excited about this one... hopefully we can keel Salami, Perry and Getzlaf away from JMac.

They need to stay out of the box tonight. Anaheim has been much better lately as it seems they realized there is no way with their talent they should be this bad. Also important on top of just getting the 19th win, if we could help start the Ducks on another mini losing streak to make them definite sellers. It looks like Selanne prefers the idea of playing with his longtime protege Filppula should he be made available, and he is important enough to the Ducks they will probably make sure he gets what he wants.

Well it's about time Cleary sat out to nurse that knee. Thanks Cleary. Mursak in. Hope he pots one tonight. Plus it looks like he should be in for a little while.

2/3rds of that big line is still beyond awful. Getzlaf and Ryan are on pace for about 55 pts each.

... I'd take him, would certainly help our power play!

Gonna be an interesting matchup, hoping for a victory of course Make it 19!

Hoping, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg have big games and get more out of their little funks, even though I know Datsyuk has been playing injured.

would be nice if the top6 could show up tonight. as much as i love the bottom6, if the top6 have a good game it's a bit more exciting.

Wings have been playing a little chippy lately. I'm curious to see how that plays out this game.
