Sharks have 100th consecutive sell out

And another 17,562 enjoyed a game tonight.

(Although not as happy had the home team won)

Good for them! Gotta say, the Shark Tank is one hell of a building and those fans are rabid (in a good way).

Good for them.

Don't suppose there's a list of currently active sellout streaks in the NHL, is there?

I'm surprised it's only 100. They took years to not sell out a game after beginning in 1991 and they've virtually never had a game where it wasn't close to a sellout.

I think they are the most successful Sun Belt team of them all. LA takes in slightly more revenue but LA has several times the population.

Good for the Sharks and the more success hockey has in California the better.

Sharks took a hit in attendance after 02-03 (the last time they were out of the playoffs), and took a bit to get back to sell outs after the 04-05 lockout.

I think their marketing "Player is a lousy <profession>, but a really good hockey player" videos have been a real help. They have been using that for 3 seasons now. (See the 11-12 team promo vid thread for this year's. Boyle and Thornton are doing their second one.)

They are shown not only during the game 'cast, but on the local/regional cable sports channels throughout the day as well as selective OTA channels/times.

Except that LA has made it to the Stanley Cup Finals once (with Gretzky, many years ago) and has been around more than 40 years (nearly a quarter century more than Sharks), I would agree, especially in recent years.

Nice to see some good news, hopefully the ticket prices don't start climbing.

Great to see.

I was in San Jose around Christmas time last year and I witnessed the Shark fans in person for the first time. Was pleasantly surprised to see how well supported the team was, how knowledgeable everyone was, and supportive they were of the franchise in general -- given that there was no snow to be seen anywhere! (though to assume the Bay Area is t-shirt weather in the winter is incorrect)

Great to see, I'm actually surprised it's not longer.

Hockey in San Jose has been an unabashed success.

My ticket went up ~20% this season (and I'm in the "cheap seats"; $29 to $35/game).

Playoff tickets are up from last year.

I think as long as they have sell outs, they'll consider raising prices.

Actually, they went up ~20% over the last TWO seasons: $29 -> $31 (last year) -> $35 (this year).

I know, losing in the WCF (again) was tough - but did it really make you forget all of last season .

There have been a bunch in seasons past. Just took a handful of games at a start of a season to break the run.

I like how at the end it says Thornton "delivers in the playoffs," considering how often he is called a choker on here.

That said, its a good commercial, really funny.

And I'm also someone who thought the Sharks had a longer sell-out streak. Always seems full when I see games in San Jose, guess not 100% full though.
