Yes I have only child syndrome. I do not deny it and I can't help it. I try to work on not being so self centered but I figure why? Since everything does revolve around me, I should just embrace it.
what a great post. in the TaN, no less. nice to see something besides people talking about girls like theyre all psycho *******, then talking about scoring with a bunch of dumpster *****, then complaining that they’re forever alone. or seeing posts about how theyre still begging their wives for ******** in their 40’s. great, great post.
my dad made a ton of money working when I was growing up, yet I never knew it. I didn’t know how much he made until I was like a freshman in college. I lost my dad 2 weeks ago, and with him went one of the few remaining people who made you work for everything you got. the funny thing is, those people are never recognized in their own time- they are even despised by some. they don’t do it to be loved- if they wanted to be loved they would spoil you. that’s taking the easy way out. they do it so that one day, you’ll understand why they did what they did…and you can pass it along to your kids, and on and on.
anyway, spot on post. oh, and **** facebook, right in the face.
Marty, I'm sorry to hear about your dad, my condolences and you too brought up some great points
Playing sports nearly every year of my life, that was one of the ways my dad has taught me how to work for things - there were so many parents that were kissing the coaches ass for their kids playing time (yet another example of parents not making their kids work for stuff) and I was seeing plenty of playing time and all, but I was putting in far more work than a lot of these other kids who were also playing and you know what? Half of those kids didn't make it past freshman year in the respective sport

My parents never gave me or my brother anything, we had to work for it. Obviously as parents there are certain things they do for you that you are extremely thankful for, but I've been working since I was a Freshman in HS and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I knew there was a reason I liked you outside of here.
Screw the "entitlement" generation.
Yea as soon as I turned 16 I went and got a job and have had that job since
My car lease is up next month so I went to a dealership the other day to check out a lease price on a car I have my eyes set on......I'm talking with a salesman and he brought something along the lines of my parents paying for my car and he was sort of taken back when I told him, no I'm paying for just about everything (parents are helping with insurance) and I felt that really spoke a lot about kids today how everybody just expects that parents are handing their kids everything
good stuff man, thats one hell of a generation. a tip? spend a random Saturday with him- lunch, driving range, whatever…just blow his mind. towards the end, he may just recount it in front of you as one of the best days of his fatherhood, and that may stay with you for the rest of your life.
Easy with the working man hero stuff, because the reality is Most don't know what is to have worked for everything they have.
Like the kid who grew up 3 houses down from me, who never knew his father and his mother was a crack addict and he had been selling drugs on the streets since he was 13 years old and was the sole bread winner for his mother, brother and sister....He kind of worked for everything he has today...
Me, not so much. That is why I don't play the Working Man hero crap.
Bring them up right. Give them what they need. Make them work for the nice things they want. Lay out the ground rules, and never waver. Working so far.
As far as the wrong boyfriend STRIKE THE FEAR OF GOD IN THE KID He will either come back or stay away for good.

I couldn't agree more with a tip like this
Don't want to drag this out, but my dad never smoked in his life, was always active and was diagnosed with lung cancer last year - fortunately because he never smoked and they caught it early, they removed it and is now able to live his life normally after going through 9 months of preventative treatment
That time never made me realize more how important it is to spend time with your family in instances that you brought up above

Yeah, when I first got my ST people thought my dad was paying for it. He still doesn't pay for them..12 years later.
My parents rule for car insurance was first accident or ticket and you're off our plan. I lasted 3 months...it's taught me an interesting lesson.
there are only two things that were ever truly handed to me. one was my car. it was a gift after college graduation from my grandfather. the other is some stock that was purchased by my great uncle as a gift when i was born. it's been sitting there for 25 years. i still haven't touched it.
everything else...college, rent, insurance, cell phone, season tickets, etc....all me.
haha - that's very odd. I'd say you worked for 1 company and put the acquisition name in parens so it looks better for you.
All the larger Corrugated companies are buying each other. and it kills job opportunities, and Eliminates a crap load.
First IP bought Weyerhaeuser (my last company), Then Rock-Tenn(first company i worked for in industry) bought Smurfit-Stone, Then Menasha buys Strive, now IP buys Temple Inland (my current Company).
This took a while to go through considering the acquisition would give them 41% share of market Industry.

I always hear about how crappy drivers young kids make...I have yet to either get in an accident, or receive a ticket O_O. I was the exception and it was well worth it especially when my younger brother got pulled over at 10:40 PM last year, with 5 kids in his 98 toyota camery hahahahahahah

I've never gotten a ticket (Military and being a female helps a lot), but I've had a few accidents, only 1 was my fault.

awesome dude, thats almost unheard of. every day is a gift for him from here on out. just curious- any idea on how he got lung cancer if he never smoked? was it secondhand?

But could you imagine growing up without food or clothes? Where college is a pipe dream and never intended for you? Where rich to you is someone with a 80$ par of sneakers?
You know when I hear people say they worked for everything they have a find it a little disrespectful to the support system and the people around them who shape them and showed how to live and get everything they have...no man is an island.
I'm a system by-product. My goal is to be the pinball that goes up, over and right down the middle without hitting the flippers. Low score, but a lot less banging around and making noise.
So many people try to make their mark, and it ends up being a negative one.

No. my parents took care of me as a kid. We weren't loaded but we were comfortable and everything was rather normal and average. I don't think I've worked for everything in the sense that you say here. Yes obviously I've had help but there are some people who never had to do anything for anything, and while I'm sure that's nice and all I like the fact I've been able to support my self.
This day is dragging...and I still have to go grocery shopping because we actually need stuff. I don't wanna go with all those nuts trying to get bread and milk like we're going to be snowed in for days.
Never made those, but I remember coming across the recipe for the standard 5 minute chocolate mug cake while I was in college. Made it a number of times. Realized after the first time it was a dry cake, so either add some icing or something to make it a little more moist/flavorful. But it was really really clutch when living in a dorm. I was in an upper class dorm, so I had a kitchen, but still. Far more affordable, quick, and easy.

Had my license a little over 7 years now. I've been in 3 accidents, all of which someone hit me. Oddest thing is they gave me a ticket for one of them, despite someone hitting me from behind... whatever. But that was the first, second was like 3 weeks later where a car in front of me stopped short, I stopped in time, pick up truck behind me wasn't and rear ended me. Best part about each of these is that I was driving my bro's car (02 jeep liberty) and it suffered no damage. A few scratches and some of the paint from the other cars. Each of them suffered significant damage to the fronts of their cars. That thing is a tank. The third one I had a green light and a car just ran the red and hit my passengers side. They had been on a solid red for a while. The woman just wasn't paying attention obviously. This one was maybe 2-3 years ago? Had my dad's car on that one. Resulted in 5 figures worth of damages. Fun part of that one is her insurance company offered to pay 90% of the damages (and admit 90% fault). My insurance company decided why should they settle for 90% when it was clearly the other person's fault, and the police report confirmed it as well. Went to arbitration and they just said "you pay yours, and you pay yours, the end." Way to go, Geico Didn't cost me anything. They were the idiots, so they paid for it and my rates remained unchanged. But still just stupid.
That being said, I've had zero tickets and caused zero accidents. I have friends who have a number of each, and others that are definitely due. The way some people drive just baffles me...

It came back that it was environmental related...he did grow up on staten island lol
