Can Max Pacioretty be a 40 goal scorer in the NHL?

I don't know how I feel about this statement, the more I think about it the more I struggle to get an answer, right now he has 22 goals in 52 games. Putting him at a 35 goal pace, one that he had last season as well so this isn't a fluke anymore. In his last 89 games he has scored 36 goals. However, the PP isn't worth a damn, but if Markov returns or Subban ever gets his groove back it would have to improve and that should (in theory) help in improving his totals. But if theory was worth anything HFboards could predict the stanley cup on july 2nd year over year

I could see him hitting it twice,

My answer is yes, definitely. Consistent 25-30 goals, maybe one or two seasons with 40.

It's possible.... but most likely he will peak at 30-35 sometime in his prime... but still he is only 23.

Not a chance, unless you match him up with a player like Malkin or Crosby I suppose.

Under perfect circumstances he probably could, sure.

Would love to see both him and the Habs do well.

He's five off the pace playing with desharnais?

Who's having an amazing season. I don't want to hear a single knock on Desharnais, if it wasn't for his size, people would be talking about him 24/7.

And this coming from someone who believed DD is at best a 3rd line center. Give credit where its due.

I don't see him being a consistant 40 goal scorer but I absolutely think he can hit the mark. He's been Montreal's best player this year and I think if he had a decent playmaker to play with the sky would be the limit for the kid. I can see him being a Kesler type player but probably not as good defensively. Consistant 30-35 goal scorer with at least one 40 goal season. With all the talk about Subban being the face of the franchise, I can actually see Pacioretty becoming more valuable to this team than PK. Pacioretty and Price are the faces of this franchise IMO.

Good point.

If he were in Neal's position he would be closer to 30 now.

Not a consistent 40 goal scorer, but I could really see him challenge the 40 goal mark once or twice in his career. A nice steal at 22nd overall by Timmins

Even Jason Blake scored 40 goals once

He definitely has it in him.

Conceivably, but not a consistent 40 goal scorer. He has 1 PP goal this season and stands tied with Toews for 4th for total ES goals. If Montreal had even a half-decent PP I'd imagine he'd have more. He needs a playmaker that can create more space for him than Desharnais and I certainly see him being able to reach it.

Not dumping on Desharnais by any means, I was merely addressing the fact that he said he'd need Crosby or Malkin to do it. Desharnais is nowhere near there level yet he is still pretty close to the mark

Absolutely. He will be a solid 35 goal guy pretty consistently. I wouldnt guarantee 40 goals but its far from unlikely.

He'll hit 40 maybe a few times with some 30 goal seasons but he'll be known for being a consistent 25 goal guy.

He's on pace for 285 shots, which is really, really good. He's also shooting a couple percent over his career average though.

Probably finishes with 32-35 goals this year.

40 goals would require a jump of another 2% in shooting percentage, so not likely.. But his shot totals are trending upwards so next year he might duplicate his 30-35 goal season this year (proj.) even without some luck that he's had.

Doubtful this year, will require some good luck next year but probably possible, and after that.. Too far ahead to predict anything accurately.

I could see him breaking 40 a couple times but most consistently a 30-35 goal scorer annually.

Can he hit 40 in his career? Definitely. But I don't see it being a consistent mark that he hits. I see him more of being a consistent low 30's goal scorer.

*facepalm*

An empty netter hat trick and people are talking about him being a 40 goal scorer. Let him hit 30 first and then we can bring it up.

I can see him hitting 40 a couple times. Consistent 40 goal scorers are extremely rare nowadays, he's not THAT talented, but he's good enough to hit 40 goals the odd time, he's got the shot, the size, the speed and the nose for the net to score a lot.

I could see him hitting it once, but most likely sticking around the 30 goal mark every year, which is still pretty fantastic. He's a great player; glad I have him on my fantasy team.

I think he'll be consistently in the 30's and have a few seasons at 40, especially if the PP improves.

Last year in just over half a season he had 7 PP goals, this year he only has 1. If the PP was as good as last year he could've potentially been at 28 goals already.
