I have to give the HABS credit for taking this kid high in the first Ed and turning him into a potential 40 goal scorer at 23. There is just something magical about Montreal.
Max is a great guy and such a team oriented player. It is also great to see him play so well after the cheap shot. Talking about a complete power forward you must give mention to this guy and his off the chart abilities. Only time will tell how capable he is of consistently amassing 30 plus goals a year.

Up to 63 points in 77 games after a 3 point performance last night. If there has been a bright spot offensively this year on Montreal its the first line, and most notably IMO the rise of Pacioretty. He is looking like he could be the first consistent 80 point player on the habs since I don't even know...and hes over 6ft on top of that! (big deal to habs fans)
If he didn't slump in the last couple of games, I think 10 without a goal, he could have probably have hit 40

At least he was still picking up assists but ya 40 might have been possible without the slump. I think 1 more goal to end with 33 still not bad after the way his season ended last year.
Can he? Yes. But then again, you can say the same thing to a lot of players in the NHL who haven't reached 40 yet...and most of them will never actually reach it.
Don't most goal scorers peak at like 26? He's got 32 at 23 years old and he missed 3 games, so I think in the next 2 or 3 years if he plays a full season he can get 40.

Goalscoring peaks at 23 for a 5 year plateau until it begins to decline at 28. Its pretty much the youngest peaking major skill. Pacioretty is basically in his early prime as a goal scorer, although he's more in the powerforward school which peaks later than the Phil Kessel type skill school.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I don't see him being far off James Neal production wise if he had Malkin or Crosby feeding him. Maybe it's my USHL bias and the fact Pacioretty played an hour from me so I've been high on him awhile.

To be fair, this is not a conversation about points. It is about his goal production, and he makes a good point that Pacioretty's goal production seems to be increasing every year.

That was not his point at all. He's giving Pacioretty imaginary goals by pro-rating limited games as if he's had three straight 30 goal seasons.
He's playing real solid hockey the last little while.
I wouldn't put it past him in the future to be a 40 goal scorer. He's a great hockey player and though it may be a little early to make such a projection, he's got the skills for it.

Yeah, but he doesn't have them feeding him. Heck, pretty much any top 6 forward with good hands would get 40 with Crosby feeding him.

He's not a one dimensional goal scorer. He has high hockey IQ , passing ability and wheels. Even when he had the goal drought, he was dishing and racking up points. With his conditioning , fierce will and wolverine like injury-recovery, he's one of the bright young forwards in the league that a team can count on to put up points consistently. He's a player.

Even as a Bruins fan, I appreciate what he brings to the table. He has the skill...I just don't like hypothetical statements where people make claims that a player would put up a certain amount of points/goals by playing alongside someone that they don't play with (thus, cannot prove if right or wrong).

Not one single player is the same, and to project at what age a goal scorer will score his most goal and "begin to decline" in my opinion is just rediculous
Because of the way Pacioretty plays, I don't necessarily think he would decline as fast as at 28 years old... he has great hands, he's a big guy and he uses those 2 skills very well by taking great shots from literally anywhere in the offensive zone and burying the puck when it's close to the net... This is the kind of player I see being able to score 25-35 goals every year (which isn't a far fetched assessment considering he just scored something like 33 last year), and I think that perhaps between 1 and 3 times he would be able to score 40.
Of course I don't see him as a perennial 40 goal scorer, it would be a ridiculous claim. But with his skills and his playing type, he could get it at least once, and continue to score a lot of goals for many, many years...
This is actually a very good point. Some people here are saying if he played with Crosby/Malkin/Tavares, etc he could do it, but IF Galchenyuk can become even near elite status as a playmaker, Pacioretty could score 40, perhaps even consistently around 40 for a few years.

Yea by the time Gally is 21 or so and Pacioretty is in his prime at 26, it'll be interesting to see what they can do together.
