Thoughts on Rinaldo at this point in time

Since coming back from injury he has 2 assists in three games and I thought he was one of the better skaters today in a sluggish effort. What does everyone think?

I like him in the lineup. With JVR and Briere out, two softer players, Rinaldo, Sestito, Harry Z, bring a little more Flyers hockey into the lineup.

I like him and Sestito in the lineup. Much better than having Shelley in it imo.

I like him, he's been solid. He's like Carcillo but IMO a little more effective. And I was a big Carcillo fan.

get rid of shelley and keep rinaldo/sestito..

either or both of them.. kinda partial towards Rinaldo more thou.

he has his brain fart moments, but his upside out weighs it i think.

shame the dam refs are already more biased towards him then most Flyers players.. but i expect nothing less from the sad sad refs this league has currently.

He is chippy but has some dirty tendencies. That said I like his physicality.

He reminds me of a young Steve Downie with about half the skill. Every time he's on the ice I picture him furiously thinking to himself "GOTTAHITSOMEONEGOTTAHITSOMEONEGOTTAHITSOMEONEOKAY HEREITGOES" and the results are mixed.

Regardless, his energy is unparalleled. Shelley is completely irrelevant to this team. Sestitio throws better hands at this point in his career, and Rinaldo is good for a solid forecheck and throwing some hard hits.

Well he is better than Shelly. Thats for sure. He annoys the **** out of the opposing teams and fans. Just look at the Rangers board. Every other post is cursing Rinaldo's name. That being said, he shouldnt be on the 3rd line so I have no idea what the hell Lavy is thinking. Stevens never kept the same lines for more than a game, and Lavy puts the weirdest players in the oddest spots.

In the end though, I'd probably take Sestito over him.

I've gone from dislike to indifferent. He brings a lot of energy and hits like a truck, but it's clear the refs have a target on him. I'm also skeptical that he'll last long in the NHL, at least on this team. Time will tell.

If he becomes a good PKer/defensive forward though, I'd be a big fan.

I'm a big fan of him, he's like carcillo but hits harder and really gets under opponents skin. It's a shame his ahl reputation is hurting him in the NHL. half of his penalties are complete bs calls imo. today was a great example.

If he can put his skills together make him more effective around the net when he is there it would be great

Reminds me of a young Jordin TooToo. Which I really like b/c he plays on edge.

I really like Rinaldo. As he matures, he'll learn when to pick and choose his spots with regards to delivering thunderous checks. You can already tell that he's reigned in his game significantly and he's working at becoming a well rounded player.

I don't ever think he'll be a big scorer - he'll be a 10 to maybe 15 goal guy. However, he's going to be a very important player in the locker room and it also doesn't hurt that he probably has Laperriere in his ear telling him how to pick and choose his spots. He'll be a leader on this team.

He was ****ing awesome today against the Rangers, maybe his best game in a Flyers uniform. He was flying around everywhere and had about 20 great hits. Also carried the puck well and was really solid all around. Had a BS penalty called on him, but what are you gonna do.

What?

He never even put up 10 goals in juniors. What makes you think he'll start scoring now?

Well Lavi likes him so that says something. I have liked his game since the preseason. He has contributed more than he has not IMO. ..I like that teams hate him it means he is doing something right. If he was irrelevent like Shelley he wouldnt be the ire of so many players and coaches around the league.

Stated perfectly. If he wasn't effective there wouldn't be an threads about him.

I most agree with this post. He's done as he has been asked, but long-term still isn't much of a viable option. Ideally, he'd be best used in a trade to get a more experienced depth player who can play tougher minutes and kill penalties. Holmgren should have stuck with the plan of letting him become a penalty killer on the Phantoms.

I really wanna unleash Rinaldo and Sestito on the Pens. I don't think they'll be able to handle Sestito.
