Dandenault really wanted to re-sign, too.

Darche is a hardworking guy but i've never liked that type of player. No edge, no mean streak. It's like these guys have been created to be in a Lemaire-type defensive system. You put a defensive system in place and they become the anti-bodies.

I agree that he lacks agression. If we could find a guy like Darche, that plays his heart out, plays well defensively and on the PK with more toughness then we would be in business for the fourth line

I enjoyed the fact that at least with someone like Steve Begin would throw these awesome hits. I would like to have a very punishing fourth line.

Darche is fine. Thoughness or a real immediate need shouldn't be addressed in your 13th forward but your top 12. White, Moen, and maybe a guy like Gaustad would make a good 4th line. Having a guy like Darche is 13th is fine. Am I crazy about it? Meh, it's okay, but he doesn't complain and understands his role.

thing is, i don't think you can.

maybe that OTHER 13th forward will fight, but i don't think you can find a 13th forward that has darche's strenghts + ability to fight.

prove me wrong

What are Darche's strengths? Doing nothing good, everything average?

seriously?

epic PK, good forecheck. average everything else. point is: he will NEVER cost you on the ice. he may not convert as much as everyone would like, but he'll never cost you. most 13th forwards will.

the guys most posters here salivate over, the fighters-type, are liabilities on skates

I would resign Darche as a 13th forward

I don't think you can get a better 13th forward in Montreal.
Guy give heart & soul every shift. He's good in defensive and on the PK, he doesn't hurt your team when he's on the ice.

But another big reason I would re-sign, he's a good depth player that accept his role. He's happy to be in the NHL, especially in Montreal, and will accept whatever the coaching staff tell him. Everytime he got benched/put on the press box you never heard a word from him about his using time etc. What matters most for him is how the team perform with or without him.

And I prefer to have Darche as a depth player, than giving a spot on the 4th line to a prospect that would learn more on a 1rst or 2nd line in Hamilton.

Kinda like the guy who'd sign Price at 3.5M.

Darche isn't playing as the 13th forward so your logic is ridiculous. He's being played as a 7th forward, just outside of the top six. He hasn't been scratched a single time all year. If not for the games where Moen-Eller-Kost were on fire, Darche would be floating around 15-16 minutes a game average. The guy is 35, it's time to cut ties. Let him go to Tampa Bay with all the other rejects.

Eller has been scratched in favour of Darche.
Kostitsyn has been scratched in favour of Darche.
Leblanc has been scratched in favour of Darche.

We simply do not need a guy like him around next year.

What I want to see next year (right now anyway);

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Leblanc - Eller - Kostitsyn
White - Gaustad - Blunden
Darche, Nokelainen

I would also be fine with getting a guy like Oreskovich out of Vancouver for the 4th line. He hits HARD.

He looked pretty good out there last night. It's amazing how playing responsible hockey creates opportunities for yourself and teammates. He also seems to adjust his game according to the line he plays. Good story.

I kinda like it, but can we exchange Desharnais for a big center with a mean streak that has a blazing shot and feathery passes?

this. he's a perfect 4th liner to me, he's intelligent and cares a lot ... shares experience with young players ... what's not to like ?

can people define ''he sucks'' please ?

Does anyone in the league fit all that criteria? Malkin and Kopitar don't have mean streaks. David Backes maybe? Even then he's got one more point than DD.

Nope, DD is going to be a PPG player soon enough (or very, very close). I wouldn't mind an upgrade on the wing for here Pleks line (move Gionta with AK and Eller), but there isnt much available that we have much chance of signing after this year.

I don't disagree but since I was making a laundry list of characteristics, why not go for the gusto?

All kidding aside, If Eller is a keeper imho management will soon (mid-term)have to make a decision on Plekanec or Desharnais. We can't shouldn't keep both moving forwards long-term.
