Selanne is at 4 mil and will have about 864k of cap space to eat up from the deadline until the end of the season. They would need to create 600k of cap space or about Alex Edler-like cap room to make it work. Raymond and a pick to Anaheim plus a minor dump elsewhere would work there for the Canucks.

Selanne would be good, but I can't see him being as impactful as Hossa was. Hossa was in beast mode at both ends of the ice almost all playoff long that year. It was one of the better displays of sustained great 2-way hockey by one player in the playoffs that I've ever watched. I just can't see Selanne doing anything close to what Hossa did that year.

I don't think Selanne will leave Anaheim. He'd be an awfully expensive rental if they move him though. It wouldn't surprised me if they could squeeze a 1st and probably even more out of somebody.

Hossa was certainly a beast for us, but I'm saying filling needs in our lineup.

Selanne's speed and complete offensive skillset would be money with Sid. He can be a secondary puck carrier, but at the same time, he doesn't need the puck on his stick to be effective as he can snipe with the best of them coming up the RW.

He'd also fulfill a need on the PP. RHS that can help us work the PK on the left boards. He's one of the best in that scenario. Especially with Sid and Malkin spreading the PK unit out.

He's one of the most consistent and hardest working guys in the league, who would more than likely be in his final year and last chance at a Cup. That kind of desperation could win us a huge game, if not an entire playoff series.

Don't think Anaheim is going to do Vancouver a favor and take on a contract like Ballard.

Ballard has little to no value especially to a team like Anaheim.

Oh ya that is so easy to do!

Murray: 'Go downstairs and i'll call you up in a minute".

Chiarelli: "Hi Murray, what can I do for you?".

Murray:"Want Selanne?"

Chiarelli: "A 7th works"

Murray: " Come on, I'll hang up"

Murray: "Done"

Deals for legends are not auctions, they pick their location without haggling
I think this is actually closest to the most likely scenario in this entire thread so far

Deadline's in a little more than 2 weeks. They can win 3 out of every 4 games until then, especially with how they're playing.

Selanne probably has a group of 3-5 teams that he believes can win a cup, and these teams he will waive for.

I'd say the price would be 1st + okay roster player. Maybe a guy who could use a change of scenery, preferably on the younger side.

ducks should trade him to colorado if the avs are looking to buy, that way selanne could redeem himself for his ****** performance whilst he was an avs player

Yaaa.. See, I dunno if you'd get a TON better for a 41 year old rental. Plus I don't think it would be about maximizing value, more about sending Selanne to where he wants to go for a fair price. If he said I'd prefer Vancouver, and we offered Raymond and a 1st, I think the offer would be accepted rather than shopped.

My guess is that if the Ducks do well on this 8 game trip he'll stick around but if we do poorly I think he'd ponder asking for a trade to a serious contender.

Raymond and a 1st IS tons better than a 1st and Wolski.

Hiller has been pretty solid lately, three lines can score and you forgot Beauchemin (who's the real number 1 defender) and Sbisa. I agree about Fowler.

Selanne is a great player and someone I would want Gillis targeting, I just never realized how poor his playoff numbers were... was a bit surprised to be honest.

However, Selanne brings a ton of experience and a tremendous skill set... you can never have enough of that on any team... I would hope Gillis would make a serious offer for him.

I would do... Raymond, Schroeder, 1st in 2012, conditional 2nd in 2013(if Vancouver makes it to the SCF)

Steep price, but I really think our window of opportunity to win a cup is now...

I also think Selanne would be great with either the Sedin's or Hodgson...

The key to this question is where does Selanne himself want to go? This isn't an obvious bidding contest. I know it will kill Ducks fans but he a Filppula are very close. I don't think Detroit will offer much more than a 1st rounder + mid-tier prospect or maybe Emmerton, but the Ducks will want to do right by Selanne, so we shall see if that is enough.

The problem is most playoff bound Western teams can boast similar things about their teams, what separates the Ducks and the others right now is their lack of depth.
