I am continually astounded that anyone wants to give up anything for Hal Gill. He's not the answer, folks!

He's way better in his own zone than MAB and his presence boosts the PK immediately.

He's slower than Pronger and he's old. We need more than just 1 defenceman.

Bourdon was probably the best defender in this game.

Yeah...

I would say that tonight's game was a much better game than the Rags game yesterday. They had a lot more jump or jam, whatever you want to call it. Carle and the rookies have been horrible. Bob has been okay but when the defense in front of you hangs you out to dry a million times, you can't really blame him. The 4th goal tonight is a prime example of that. I would get rid of Carle, Walker or Lilja, whoever would be dumb enough to take #6 or #8. As far as the vets go, Briere isn't himself yet, Jagr isn't either. Can't fault Simmonds, Talbot, Hartnell they are having career years. Read and Couturier have exceeded expectations and Schenn is now coming on. It's pretty obvious who needs to go.

i know everyone hates carle, but can people at least crap on the other guys who are more deserving of the hate? coburn was just awful. he was 95% responsible for the first goal against and on the fourth goal there were two guys he could have defended, and he covered neither of them.

Right... the point isn't to bring in Gill for his mobility. He's never been fast, but he's effective at what he does in his own zone and on the PK.

Agreed. But rental d-men don't really cost that much to acquire, and we have Carle (and possibly MAB) to use as chips.

Don't overpay but he could play a very important role in keeping the slot clear.

Tired of our D not protecting this area of the ice.

Also tired at how other teams can just skate in and hack away without ending up on their backside.

Carle is on another level of suckage. I hope the Flyers offer him nothing and let him walk. He annoys the **** out of me. Not physical at all either.

i think Carle goes out of his way to not only avoid contact but he actualy gives the O. player room to work with.

i swear Carle is afraid of touching the opposing players..

Carle in the games against the Rangers..Bruins and Detroit who all forecheck well and hard particularly the Rangers and Bruins is showing why he can't be trusted come playoff time. He's had a good year but in the bigger games against these hard checking teams he gets exposed. However, I think Coburn has been worse and I'm a Coburn fan. He better get mean come playoff time....that's of course if we don't fall out of contention which is not out of the question. All the teams behind us have notched it up a gear..we've either been in neutral or park...

He won't keep the slot clear (heck, it would take him 15 seconds to get to the slot) and he won't put people on their backsides, but he'll block shots and cut down on the passing lanes (and, surprisingly enough, will make a good breakout pass).

The man is a specialist, but he's a great specialist.

And he won't lose speed with age; he had none to start with.

Hey man if he can duplicate what he did that year Montreal knocked off the Caps and Pitt which made our cup finals trip easier I'll take it. He was really good along with Halek of course....

Precisely. That's what I want him for.

If people are looking for a defender with some more snarl, I think Shane O'Brien is a good target.

No I just think the game wasn't as poorly played as a lot of people think. Yeah we are not hanging with the top teams, but did anyone realistically think that?

Gill would make our defense better. He knows hes not a great skater, but hes always beena pretty solid guy positionally and can block shots all day long. Now obviously I wouldnt sell the farm for him, but if the price is right. pull the trigger.

I'm optimistic that Holmgren will make at least 2 moves for defensemen at the deadline. They may not be a sure fire solution but anything is better than the train wreck that is on the blue line right now. A physical defenseman who actually throws a body check and can clear the front of the net would be nice.

I intentionally watched Bourdon the entire game. As someone else said, he was probably our most solid d-man this game. He made good passes, pinched effectively on occasion, threw a couple good hits(I know one was a penalty), and tried to position himself in front of our net to keep it clear.

He's a rookie, and that means he may have a solid game, one or two so-so games, and then a bad game. He seems like a solid team guy that is becoming pretty popular with his teammates. I'm not ready to trade him for another d-man who is basically a 5/6 guy. Let's give him time to develop.

No, but it's a bit silly when people are calling for a blowup of the team (yet again) after a one-goal loss to Detroit. I mean, especially with the structure we have of our team now. Didn't we all pretty much expect this time of the year to be very difficult for us. We're not really built for the grind this year. This is a team for the future, but usually a team with 8 rookies will find it hard to win against the best teams in January and February. That doesn't mean that we should just call it a season though. All the experience our young guys can gain this year is good, so if we can advance a round or two in the playoffs that would be great.
