Heres a stat for you guys and obviously stats dont always tell the whole story but every team in the East with the exception of Boston is giving up .6 more goals a game than the Rangers. Another telling stat is they are 3rd in the NHL in goal differential. Obviously they could use more offense but their defense makes up for their shortcomings
good post. It is a very telling stat which shows that is a really good team. Actually, last year's Ranger team had similar team statistics. They were top 5 or better in GAA and Goal differential last year also. Goals scored was around top 15 or so.
This team needs a 25 goal scorer who won the Cup before because of the lack of experience beyond Richards and Feds.
Alternatively, they could get a 35 goal scorer, regardless of experience.
The current team's combination of lack of experience and lack of scoring doesn't bode well for the playoffs.
I think Whitney or Selanne would be a perfect fit and are exactly what you're talking about. I dont think they would cost a ton either considering they are UFA's after the season. I've wanted the Rangers to get a guy like Carter and I still would love to see it but I'm starting to think Sather will go for a move more like Selanne or Whitney. I dont think hes looking to trade anyone from this team. Even with the way he's struggled I think Duby is a big part of this team in Torts eyes. I think if Sather cant get a guy like Whitney or Selanne or even Smyth he's gonna make a smaller move or too and thats it. I dont see him going for Nash or Carter or Ryan.
