Bickel at forward or a call up?

Would you rather see a call up like MZA/Wolski or would you rather see Torts go with 7 defensemen and use Bickel at forward?
(A call up might also not work as the Rangers wouldn't want to fill up cap space for a possible trade but still is it worth the risk?)

Well Wolski is coming back soon from his conditioning, so unless he's put on waivers or dealt, I'd imagine he would return to the lineup.

I have a feeling Wolski won't be here much longer

Wolski is still on the roster so if anyone was gonna be in the lineup it would be him. Thought that Bickel would be in there today against Philly and than tom Wolski would be in there but Torts may just keep Bickel in the lineup

I had this conversation with a co-worker tonight and we both liked the idea of keeping Bickel at forward. I liked his game today and think that he brings more intangibles to the Rangers than Wolski ever will.

He took some dumb penalties but as a d-man, he's better than Bickel. Give him some more time, he's been out for 2 months with an injury.

As for Bickel, he'll probably play over Wolski but I would think Sather is looking for a 3rd-4th liner that can win faceoffs to take that spot at the deadline.

I remember having Gilroy on the wing last season because Torts refused to call up MZA. Please don't make that mistake again!

Rangers risk losing Bickel on waivers if they send him down. To some that might be no big deal but Bickel has come in very handy in the nastier games that have come our way since he was called up. I'd keep him around if only as a spare---however I'm not convinced that Wolski is going to waltz right back into our lineup--Fedetenko or no Fedetenko. His lack of grit along with average at best defense and inconsistent offense has not so far made him a good fit on this team. Personally I'd prefer Avery over him (wherever Sean is--injured? sent home?) and John Mitchell as well.

Here's the other thing--trade deadline coming up in two weeks. Doesn't mean we'll be able to dump WW on another team but we might pick up another forward anyway.

I expect after his condition assignment Rangers are going to make Woywitka's trip to Hartford official--or permanent as long as no one else gets hurt.

Wolski is in tuesday, back from stint in ahl no? Woywitka will get waived. Bickel is a good fill in to fight but no need in the playoffs

An injury or two and he might be a need. IMO Woywitka stands a far greater chance of passing through waivers than Bickel does and having either or both players still around come playoff time is good asset management. The more d-men you have with NHL experience on your roster and for call ups the better. The last time the Rangers made the conference finals they got knocked out by the Flyers and a major reason was they had a bunch of injured defensemen.

Which is why I like the idea that we have Erixon (who's got a taste of the NHL) Bell (who has over a 100 games of NHL experience) Woywitka and Bickel. Valentenko and Parlett might even be able to be adequate but I think it's best to have all of them around.

For sure keep the depth, I actually think no one gets waived till deadline day. Bickel showing he can play wing and d is big for his value and I don't think woywitka is waived till they trade for better

The guy missed two months of hockey, cut him a little slack. He's been a reliable 5/6 defenseman since we acquired him, he's certainly better defensively than anything we have down in Connecticut at the moment.

Didn't watch yesterday, did Bickel play forward?
Personally, I'd put MDZ up front

He played with Prust and Rupp.

Why would you move Del Zotto? Then we'd have zero offensive presence from the back end. His defense has been good as well, and moving him would just strain the rest of the unit.

Bickel and a callup...but someone who can play a bottom-6 role. I don't think that a high-scoring forward should be played on the 4th line.

Each could then battle Eminger for a lineup spot...of course, this is until Ruslan Fedotenko comes back.

I also wonder if Wolski might not simply be buried in Hartford once his conditioning assignment ends.

Wellman is a possibility, I happen to think Bickel looked okay in his limited time at forward. Better than Gilly did, approximately the same as Strudwick did when we played him there awhile back.

I don't think thats a long term plan, though.

Many of his points have come from going up on the rush with the likes of Gabby and Stepan, so he was basically a 4th forward. However, the lack of offensive d-men is a valid concern.

And I'm not opposed to that line :amazed

Same lineup for Rangers. Lundqvist in net, Bickel as a fourth-line forward.

Works for me. Let's roll with this for a little longer.

Agreed.

He was strong on the forecheck, hit hard, and protected the puck well. He's been quite a useful player for this team. I could easily see him becoming a valuable 13th forward/7th defenseman on a deep team. Great find from our scouts, can't believe we traded a 'cancerous' Nigel Williams for this guy.

Bean a healthy scratch the last six games. No explanations on why though
