If you're into punk I also recommend Cafe Chaos on Rue St Denis, a bit south of Sherbrooke. It usually has good live bands, the beer isn't too expensive and the crowd is pretty eclectic. Foufs is also great and usually has some really, really good drink specials. I haven't been there in about five years though.
I was going to recommend Saint Sulpice, which is a four-floor bar with a huge courtyard out back, but then I realized that its November and its not quite the same.
Avoid Crescent Street between Ste Catherine and Sherbrooke like the plague. South of Ste Catherine you have Brutopia and Mad Hatters, north of Ste Catherine is a string of over-priced, crappy bars and clubs. And if you're going to hit up a "Gentleman's" club don't waste your time with Super Sexe. There are far better establishments about.
Depends what you are looking for.
I went to the Fouf before, it's an ok place, scuse me for my vocabulary, but its more for "punks".
If you are into clubing, there's the Boom and the Loft.
And since your 18, why not strip clubs lol
I personnally recommend the Downtown club!
mwhehehe
I personally hate clubbing, punk clubs and irish pubs for me!
I know it is awesome, and I too would be all over that, but I just thought it sounded funny the first time I read it. I sounded like I am an adult, but mom is still paying. Well, not totally like that, but pretty much, anyways, don't worry i'm not making fun of him, like I said, I would love that too, it just was funny to read that's all.

I know. I was just thinking I wish that was my 18th birthday present.
If you like Club : La Boom
If you like Q music : 2 pierrots
If you like after hour : Circus
If you like alternative : Foufounes électriques
If you like pub : Sir Winston Churchill (Crescent)
I'm not much of a fan of Foufs myself. Bah, to each his own I guess.
If you just head down to St. Laurent street, there's tons and tons of places (though it's a really long street) where I'm sure you'll find something you like.
..... if you are looking for a bath of american culture, then yes, St-Laurent is the place to go. You will see there a street filled with superficial persons too.
..... If you move to more francophones places in the East on St-Denis, Mont-Royal or even at Le Dieu du Ciel on Laurier, you will find great places...... but at 18, I guess you will be trilled to enter legally a place like Le loft, corner of St-Cat and St-Laurent I think.
If you like Psychedelic Trance Gravity is having a very special nite on the 27. Wizzy Noise live!!!!! Whice probably does not mean anything to you but there realy good. I can try to get you some cheaper tickets if you like! Personaly a like partys more than clubing but this nite its a party in a club so it might be fun. I sell the ticket in my store I could try to work something with the promoter if you like Think about it! Pm me if you want more info!
Here are a few of mine, although I no longer live in Montreal for 3 years now, so phone ahead to check if still open.
Whiskey (mainly) places: Ile Noire (pub-style), Whiskey Cafe (art deco style, quite romantic too, also a cigar bar).
Martini place (funky decor, many kinds of martinis, often live music): Jello Bar
Latin dancing (if that's your thing): Cubanos, Salsatheque (very full on weekends).
Port & sherry place: le Sofa (also live music).
Bring-your-own-wine restaurants worth the trip (mostly French): Yoyo, L'Entrepont, La Colombe, La Raclette (there are more but I've forgotten so many...).
There used to be a nice cigar bar on St-Denis near Rachel, but I forget the name and where exactly.
Anyhow, my take on it. I don't know if that's what you want for an 18-year old couple...
I see. That changes things. Will your mother pay for a "rub and a tug", such as you can find in any Montreal classified ad section? Or a upgraded lap-dance such as you can find in Richelieu?
Anyhow, I don't want to be a bad influence, beyond whiskey, port, martinis, and very, very rich food. Have a good weekend.
Oh and 2 lunch-time favourites of mine: the sandwiches (smoked meat, special mix, etc.) at Marché Slovenia on St-Laurent (only a stand-up counter, but trumps by far any of the sit-down places like Ben's, Schwartz', etc.), and the burgers and fries at Frites Alors on Park, the latter fried in animal fat (take that, cholesterol count!) and served with your choice of home-made mayonaise (the Belgian upscale kind).
