Part of the Stars' ongoing problem I feel is that the forwards are too keen to fly the zone early and get far too spread out in neutral ice, necessitate long, ambitious passes that the defensemen aren't capable of delivering. They're at their best when they're playing as a compact unit moving up the ice in relatively close formation and making short-to-medium passes. This is another reason why I think trading Ott could be beneficial as he doesn't know any other way to play and is always going to err on the side of cheating up-ice in the hopes of getting breakaways to the detriment of the group's overall posture.
Luddy just raised a good point. Why not put the 3rd line on the power play? They're easily the smoothest cycling line that we have. There's no reason to keep smashing our heads against the wall when we have other options.
