Rob Blake Jersey Reirement

Are the Avalanche ever going to do it? Just got reminded of this with the recent Hejduk threads. I really hope and think that we should.

No. No way. It is not imperative that the Avs retire EVERY number of EVERY possible HOFer to ever play for the franchise.

Next up, Alex Tanguay's #40 AND #18 (would be OK with the latter, haha)

Nope. I don't think Hejduk or Foote's should be retired either.

I think the Avs should start honoring jerseys. Put them up in the rafters. Give them their night. But don't retire the jerseys unless they are hall of fame players, who have spent significant time with the Avs.

That's not going to happen.

Foote and Hejduk will probably get their numbers retired and that should be it for a while.

Maybe Landeskog in 20 years.

GOD NO. Not that stupid "Forever a Flame" ******** Calgary's doing. Either retire a number or don't, but don't raise a # to the rafters in some pointless ceremony.

No, we should not retire Blake's #. He didn't have nearly as much impact on the Avs as Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, Hejduk, and yeah, Bourque. Not saying the Bourque retirement should have happened, just saying Blake's most certainly shouldn't. Hell, the #'s already been worn by another player since then, albeit with Blake's blessing.

I'd be content if they didn't retire anyone's number again for a while.

Maybe Foote. I don't think Hejduk or Tanguay should go up there.

Retire too many jerseys and it really waters the honor of it down.

Blake was the missing piece to a cup winner (although Reinprecht was just as important to the team in that deal as Blake was) Bourque was the driving force for the quest. BIG difference.

I don't think Tanguay should have his number retired either. But adding two more numbers to the four we already have up there wouldn't water down the honor. Besides after Foote and Hejduk who else would be a candidate anytime soon?

As for this honoring numbers thing. All it would do is to set some kid up to have the "He's not living up to his number" slag thrown on him by an idiot like Dater and overreactionay board members here. Can you imagine if Duchene was wearing Sakic's 19 right now...holy jumpin'

I'm fine with Foote (because he was with the Avs most of his career and was a big part of 2 cups) and Hejduk (because he's spend his whole career with the Avs and was a big part of the team throughout his career).

But apart from them, no one else should be retired for awhile. I know Blake was a part of the 01 Cup and the team's number 1 D-man for a few years, but he spent the majority of his career with LA and that's the only team that should retire his jersey IMO.

Those two should not be put in the same sentence.

Why is Tanguay even being mentioned? There is no chance he ever gets his number retired. Not by the Avs or any other team in the league.

On a serious note, I hope we do retire Foote. I think it's to his advantage that he wore #52.

HELL NO!! Rob Blake was not the favorite in here. He is here strictly on business deal. I still remembered how he left us after the CBA, even with his bonus counted towards salary cap. It really hampered our team that year.

NO thanks. I hope his number will never be retired anywhere.
